Premier League side Chelsea want to make João Félix transfer permanent from Atlético Madrid

The London club are convinced that they want to sign the Portuguese star and want to meet with Atlético to talk about the asking price.

Whatever happens with João Félix over the summer will be one of the keys to Atlético Madrid’s movement in the transfer market. Right now he is enjoying a sparkling spell on loan at Chelsea, where he feels comfortable and the London club are, as such, very happy with his performances. Todd Boehly’s team want to keep him on their books and make the Portuguese player one of the pillars in the new project.

Atletico have already told the English club that they will not undersell the most expensive signing in their history. But Chelsea want a meeting in the coming weeks to talk about the player’s value, who is still just 23 years old.

(Translation of the tweet below from @2010MisterChip: Atlético in the league since João Félix left; 30 from 36 points. From being 11 behind Madrid to just two.)

How much would João Félix cost Chelsea?

For a significant amount, the three parties could all reach an agreement. João Félix does not want to return to Madrid to work again under Simeone’s orders and Chelsea have decided that they want him no matter what; as well as this, Atlético have seen that things are going well for them without him the player.

In the corridors of the Atlético Madrid stadium there are many supporters of the Portuguese ace, but everyone knows that in three and a half seasons he hasn’t been decisive in the team, except in short spells or in specific games. Atlético cannot afford to have an elusive, ephemeral, very expensive diamond in the team.

Atlético and Chelsea must agree a fee for Félix

On the one hand, there are the millions of euros that Atlético forked out in 2019, when they paid €127 million for the young Benfica star. On the other hand are the financial possibilities of Chelsea, who have already made significant outlays during the last two transfer windows and will undoubtedly have to make some sales in the summer. In London they are counting on João to pitch in to facilitate the move and various ways of working a deal will be put on the table.

Meanwhile, Atleti are watching the Champions League with high expectations, because if the Portuguese is decisive in Europe’s elite tournament against Madrid, Lampard’s side may be encouraged to make a more forceful offer for the player.

Chelsea are delighted with the player - and it’s mutual

So far, João Félix has had ups and downs in his new team, with just two goals in twelve games but regularly showing his class. Neither he nor his team, which has just changed coaches again, have things going their way, but nevertheless the striker is delighted with the club.

In fact, he has already said publicly how good the new shirt looks on him, with mentions of the style of football, the attacking game and even the support of the fans. Chelsea see him as enthusiastic and, in sporting terms, they believe that it is a matter of time before both he and they explode. For this reason, Chelsea are clear: they want João Félix no matter what.
