Preseason club friendly games: Who plays today, Saturday, July 25?
Today’s preseason exhibition games are headlined by Liverpool’s clash with Sunderland, in Andoni Iraola’s first match in charge of the Reds.
Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool era kicks off in the U.S. today, as the Merseysiders face Sunderland in their opening friendly of the preseason period. The all-Premier League matchup comes just under a month out from the start of the 2026/27 English top-flight campaign.
Nashville’s Geodis Park is the venue for the exhibition match, which is the first of three U.S. friendlies each for Liverpool and Sunderland. In the coming days, the Reds and the Black Cats will also take on Leeds United and Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham - two teams that face each other tonight at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.
After three years in charge at Bournemouth, Iraola took over as Liverpool’s new head coach early last month, signing a two-year deal to replace the sacked Arne Slot.
Elsewhere in the world, New Zealand also witnesses overseas preparations for the new Premier League season. As they gear up for their first full term under Roberto de Zerbi, Tottenham Hotspur play their second friendly of the summer, when they take on Auckland FC at Eden Park. The game comes three days after Tottenham beat third-tier English club MK Dons 1-0, new signing Mateus Fernandes scoring the winner at Spurs’ London training base.
Among the non-Premier League teams in action today, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich visit lower-league German club Wehen Wiesbaden, while Scottish title holders Celtic host Italian giants AC Milan in Glasgow.
