Real Madrid’s next blockbuster transfer may depend on Eduardo Camavinga

Real Madrid’s message is simple: if another marquee signing is to arrive this summer, somebody has to leave first. And while several names have been mentioned, one continues to dominate the conversation – Eduardo Camavinga.

The France international has no intention of leaving the Santiago Bernabéu. After an injury-hit campaign that ended with him missing the FIFA Club World Cup, Camavinga believes he has unfinished business in Madrid. His goal is to regain the form that once made him one of the club’s most valuable young players.

But his determination to stay has also created a problem for the club’s transfer plans.

Why Camavinga has become the obvious candidate

Real Madrid have already invested around $100 million this summer, paying fees for Jose Mourinho, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella, while Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva both arrived as free agents.

The club has also generated significant income through player sales, including Nico Paz, Víctor Muñoz, Mario Gila, Gonzalo García (“El Toro”), Álex Jiménez, Fran García and Mario Martín. Financially, Madrid are in a healthy position.

However, balancing the books is different from finding the room to complete a transfer worth well over $170 million. To finance that kind of signing – with Michael Olise among the calibre of players admired – another major sale would almost certainly be required.

That is where Camavinga enters the picture.

Among Madrid’s central midfield options, the Frenchman is viewed as the most expendable compared with Aurélien Tchouaméni, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler. The club is therefore willing to listen to offers, even if it expects few to materialize.

Madrid won’t even consider offers below roughly $80 million, and they have no intention of lowering their demands. Despite an underwhelming season, the club believes his résumé speaks for itself: two Champions League titles, two LaLiga crowns, a Copa del Rey and a collection of other major trophies, along with the versatility to play in midfield or at left back.

Camavinga only wants one thing

The statistics tell part of the story.

Camavinga featured in 43 of Madrid’s 56 matches last season but played only 43% of the available minutes, averaging just 46 minutes per appearance when fit. Injuries were responsible for most of the games he missed, yet his influence within the team clearly declined.

His performances also fell below expectations, culminating in a disappointing end to the campaign that left him eager to make amends.

That desire is exactly why he has no interest in leaving.

Since returning to Valdebebas on July 13, Camavinga has reportedly thrown himself into his recovery, working relentlessly in the gym and on the training pitch with the aim of convincing Mourinho that he deserves another chance.

For now, both sides remain firm. Real Madrid are open to selling at the right price, while the player remains determined to stay.

Until one of those positions changes, Camavinga’s future could be the single biggest factor determining whether Madrid can complete another blockbuster signing before the transfer window closes.
