Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner Alessia Elefante were attacked at their home in Paris as their apartment was burgled on Thursday night. An organised gang forced their way into the property, located in the eighth district in the French capital, and tied up the Italian international and his girlfriend before making off with goods worth as much as €500,000 (circa $556,710).

The duo were held hostage as the gang looked for valuables and later fled to a nearby hotel, where employees notified the police.

Donnarumma and Elefante were then taken to hospital to be examined, as was the building manager of their apartment complex, who was also tied up. According to source close to Paris-based newspaper Le Parisien, Donnarumma suffered a “minor injury”.

PSG players a target for burglaries

The incident is far from being an isolated case, with a number of PSG players having had their homes broken into in recent years, including Ángel Di María, Sergio Rico, Mauro Icardi, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Presnel Kimpembé, Dani Alves and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. However, none were at home at the times of the burglaries.

In January this year, two men were imprisoned following a robbery at the home of Marquinhos in March 2021, while two others were sentenced to between three and four years in jail for breaking into Di María house on the same day.
