PSG settle on Nice manager Galtier to replace Pochettino
According to L’Equipe, PSG have reached an agreement with Nice to announce Christophe Galtier as soon as Mauricio Pochettino’s departure is confirmed.
PSG have settled on a new manager to replace Mauricio Pochettino. According to L’Equipe, the Parc des Princes hierarchy have come to an agreement to bring Nice coach Christophe Galtier to the club, in exchange for a buy-out fee in the region of €10 million. An official announcement is expected in the next few days but the 55-year-old, who previously managed Lille - who he led to the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title - and Saint-Étienne, should be confirmed as Pochettino’s replacement in time to take charge of the start of PSG’s pre-season at Camp des Loges on 4 July. Other names had been linked, including Zinedine Zidane, who is holding out for the France job, and José Mourinho, who has pledged his immediate future to Roma.
Galtier to be unveiled when Poch departure confirmed
The only delay to the announcement of Galtier is an ongoing negotiation over the terms of Pochettino’s departure. PSG are in talks with the Argentinean’s lawyers over a compensation package that was initially expected to be around €15m, but no agreement has yet been reached and the two parties have found the distance between them and a deal widening over the past day or two. As regards Galtier, the former Marseille player still has two years left on his contract at the Allianz Riviera, having joined last summer.
Galtier will become the third French coach to take charge of PSG during the QSI ownership era after Antoine Kombouaré (2011-2012) and Laurent Blanc (2013-2016). He will also become the seventh manager overall since the Qatar Sports Investments takeover, with Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel also having been in charge at the Parc des Princes.
