PSG tell Mbappé they will sell him or he will spend a season in the stands
The French team have finally had enough: they will either sell their star or exile him to the stands for a season.
It turns out that leaving Kylian Mbappé in Paris for PSG’s Japanese tour was only step one in the plan to show the player that the club are not ready to budge.
According to information from Le Parisien, the club have told those close to Mbappé that they will not hesitate to leave him in the stands for next season if he either fails to accept a renovation or be sold in this summer transfer window.
Mbappé may not be registered for the UEFA Champions League 23/24
The only possibility for Kylian Mbappé to return to the pitch, as PSG understand it, is by accepting a contract renewal. That would mean activating his unilateral extension clause to continue for another year at the club, an avenue that was already explored weeks ago, to no avail. If not, he will be sold, and various teams have already shown an interest in the player.
In the case of not receiving a positive result with this tactic, the player may well find himself watching the action from the stands for a whole season, having all competitions, including the Champions League, taken away from his boots.
The measure, a lot more serious than sending him to the naughty step with the other ‘for sale’ players, is evidence of Qatar’s now non-existent patience with Mbappé. Both Doha and Nasser Al Khelaïfi have endured a long set of talks over the past days, emphasising that nobody is above the club. If Mbappé does not renew, he will still remain outside of the squad, he will train on his own and will not be a part of any of Luis Enrique’s squads for the 2023/24 season.
Mbappé's lawyers are negotiating an exit strategy with PSG
Next season is marked in red ink for Kylian Mbappé. As well as the Champions League, a competition he may not even be registered for if he does not renew, the France captain has the Euros within his sights for 2024, as well as the Olympic Games, held in Paris. Taking away a full season for the player would stop his development cold, which is why both parties have no other choice but to find some common ground before the end of the summer market.
Kylian Mbappé's exit from PSG could be closer than is thought. As told by Le Parisien, Nasser Al Khelaïfi and the player’s lawyers are negotiating his exit. The relationship between the club and player have all but evaporated over the course of the last few weeks and the Qatari is trying to convince them to accept PSG’s offer.
Mbappé's renewal is dead. Right now, the idea of Mbappé extending his deal for another season is a utopian prospect for the club and that is why they have already begun to explore other options. Despite the player’s public position of wanting to continue, as the clock ticks on, the green exit sign above the door gets brighter and brighter.
