PSG won’t mind if Mbappé leaves on a free transfer

If Kylian doesn’t renew his contract and leaves in 2024, PSG would not actually lose money as the player has waived a series of loyalty bonuses.

Kylian Mbappé's renewal with PSG remains at a standstill, but at least the figures surrounding his possible departure seem to be clearer. According to information from L’Équipe, if they no agreement is signed, the club would not suffer financially as a result as both parties reached common ground in August for the forward to waive an amount sum in premiums and loyalty bonuses.

That meeting, which took place at Parc des Princes during PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Lorient - just one day before Mbappé was reinstated and forgiven his punishment for not renewing, was the starting point of the reconciliation between the club and the player. The France captain once again felt important and the Parisian leaders, on the other hand, transmitted a disproportionate and erroneous optimism.

This season, the former Monaco player, top scorer in Ligue 1 with 10 goals, has remained silent so as not to fuel rumors about his possible departure and to not give clues about a hypothetical contract extension. His last public appearance was on 15 June, in Faro, Portugal, before the Euro qualifier between Gibraltar and France. Since then, the silence has been total and the footballer has stayed away from the media spotlight.

Al Khelaïfi, who said in August that: “Kylian is a fantastic boy and so is his family” tried to put the forward under pressure over the summer by assuring him that he would watch the team from the stands if he did not renew or agree to leave. The strategy did not work and, after a conversation in August, the relationship was put back on track.

The results in the Champions League could play an important role. One of the promises that the president made to the French striker, back in May 2022, was to provide him with a competitive team that aspired to win the Champions League every season. After a wasted first year of his contract, the second, with Luis Enrique on the bench, may be different.

In the event that he does not renew, PSG would not suffer a significant economic impact. Mbappé promised, according to L’Équipe, to forgive an amount that could amount to 100 million euros in loyalty bonuses and bonuses.

The French newspaper does not rule out Liverpool coming back with a bid for the player. The Reds tried to sign him in August 2017 before he left for Paris. Real Madrid, discreet for the moment, are patiently waiting. In January 2024, he will be free to negotiate with the club of his choice, so Al Khelaïfi and Luis Campos will have to get to work to repeat the same scenario as two years ago.
