The Clausura 2023 campaign is set to start in January and the four teams with the most titles in Liga MX have struggled to lift the trophy in the past. Pumas UNAM, Cruz Azul, Chivas and Club América are trying to end their title drought in the upcoming tournament.

The teams with the most league titles

Cruz Azul is the only team that has won the title most recently after defeating Club León in the Clausura 2021 final. Los Cementeros ended a 23-year title drought after winning their ninth league trophy in club history, but it has been a year and a half since they tasted glory.

Chivas is considered to be the most popular team in all Liga MX, but in the past 25 years they have only won the trophy twice. The Guadalajara-based team won it in the Apertura 2006 and Clausura 2017. Chivas has lifted the league title 12 times, but since 2017 they have struggled to even qualify for the playoffs.

Club América is the team with the most league titles in Liga MX with 13 and every tournament they are a contender to lift the trophy. The last time Las Águilas won the trophy was during the Apertura 2018 when Miguel Herrera was the head coach. América has won four titles in the last 25 years and they have one more than Chivas, their eternal rival.

Pumas UNAM is a different story and they have struggled to win the trophy. The last time Los Felinos won the title was in the Clausura 2011 and since then they have not even been close to reaching the final in the past 11 years. They are considered to be one of the best teams in Liga MX and they are looking for revenge in the upcoming Clausura 2023.
