Following their inability to reach the Liga MX final, Pumas UNAM are focusing on climbing back to the top ranks of the general table. For the upcoming tournament, the team from the premier university (UNAM) plans to change the kickoff time for their home games, aiming to improve the players’ performance.

Pumas reduce their noon time KOs

According to information from Rodrigo Celorio of TUDN, the coaching staff led by Gustavo Lema is seeking to enhance the team’s physical condition. As a result, they have requested to reduce the number of matches played at 12 noon at the Olympic Stadium of Ciudad Universitaria. Throughout the tournament, the auriazules will have nine home games, of which only three will be scheduled at the traditional midday time slot that has been used for years.

In the last year, the Pumas have had some of their home games on Saturday and Sunday evenings, a change that proved beneficial for the team. Meanwhile, the university’s management continues to search for reinforcements following the departures of Gustavo Fernández and the Argentine Juan Ignacio Dinenno.

So far, the Pedregal-based team has confirmed the signings of Piero Quispe and Guillermo Martínez, arriving from Universitario de Deportes and Puebla, respectively. Pumas UNAM is set to kick off the Clausura 2024 by facing Bravos de Ciudad Juárez at Ciudad Universitaria.
