Pumas hope to agree a deal for Gabriel Fernández

Pumas want a striker for the Apertura 2023 and Gabriel Fernández has been one of the most talked about options in recent days. The Uruguayan striker will be a free agent next week and this would facilitate his arrival at the Mexican club.

AS Mexico understand that LaLiga outfit Celta Vigo will not extend the Uruguayan’s contract, while Juárez did not exercise their option to buy him for around $3 million.

Deal close

The former Peñarol player’s contract runs out on 30 June, so Pumas could begin talks with Fernández’s entourage and negotiate his contract without having to talk to Celta or Juárez.

Pumas have made the signing of Nathan Silva official at the request of Antonio Mohamed and will have to analyse the number of foreign players in their squad. Higor Meritao and Nicolás Freiré are the two main candidates to leave the club.
