Real Madrid about to enter multi-million dollar battle
Reaching the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup would represent a huge boost to Real Madrid’s finances.
But the money is only part of the story.
Madrid's possible outcomes:
If Madrid wins or draws with goals, they’ll top the group. If it ends 0-0, they’ll still finish first — but only if Al Hilal either doesn’t win or wins by no more than two goals. However, if the Saudis win by more than two, or by exactly two while scoring at least four, Madrid would drop to second.
The only scenario that would lead to a tie between Madrid and Al Hilal is a 3-1 win for the Saudis. In that case, qualification would come down to the “fair play” rule.
If Madrid loses, they’d only go through if Al Hilal fails to beat Pachuca.
Naturally, Al Hilal wants to avoid a 2-2 draw between Madrid and Salzburg — a result that would send Madrid through in first and Salzburg in second. But don’t expect Madrid to play along. Around the club, they don’t even want to hear the word biscotto.
