REAL MADRID

Real Madrid keep both Haaland and Mbappé as transfer options for 2024

The Spanish club are keeping their interest firm in both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé, who they could sign in 2024.

Haaland y Mbappé

Mbappé or Haaland; Haaland or Mbappé. That is the question at Real Madrid, a club which are keeping both avenues open for a future addition to the squad. Bellingham, Vinicius, Musiala or Saka may make up other potential superstar market movements, but nobody comes close to the aforementioned attacking duo.

They are, in fact, the two players with the highest value in the world, both with a price tag of around €180 million on their shirt. However, the similarities end there, as the two are in a radically different contractual situations, but both of them favour Los Blancos.

Mbappé is a free agent as of next June. As revealed by AS, as of today, PSG are ruling out submitting a renewal offer to the French forward. They are in no hurry and their intention is only that Mbappé fulfils the deal that has been agreed and activates the clause that extends his contract one more year in Paris, until 2025. “It is impossible to pay him more,” they have recognised off the record in reference to the insane economic conditions that have been agreed between the club and player.

How much would Mbappé earn at Real Madrid?

It will be later in the season, and calmly done, when PSG will activate the renewal of the player. Therefore, Real Madrid have a free road ahead to negotiate Mbappé's arrival from January 1, since they will not have to enter into transfer fee negotiations with PSG, a club that seem fed up with the attitude of their star.

However, Real Madrid, who have their accounts in order to acquire a big money player, understand the monetary implications that a signing of this size will entail. First, Mbappé, if he joined, would break the salary structure at the club, although this effect will also occur with Haaland.

Spanish broadcaster Josep Pedrerol revealed on the TV show El Chiringuito that the LaLiga club plan to pay Mbappé €35 million net per season. For now, the highest earners at the club are Alaba and Kroos, who earn €10.8m and €10.7m per year respectively. As well as the huge economic outlay, Mbappé would want to play in the same position as Vinicius Jr, his favourite spot on the pitch, a potentially unmanageable problem that could well halt the Brazilian’s progression in the side.

Haaland gaining ground as an option for Madrid

On the other side of the scale is Haaland, Real Madrid’s other target. The striker has a contract until 2027 at City, and next summer a clause will come into play that the Norwegian himself can activate to leave for a predetermined amount of money. According to the information received by AS, the fee stands at more than €250 million.

This figure will drop in 2025 and even more in 2026. Madrid sounded out the player’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, regarding this situation without wanting to enter into negotiations, as doing so would be illegal. In any case, everything will depend on Haaland’s willingness to leave the current treble holders.

In any case, his entourage are beginning to suggest that perhaps 2024 is still too soon to leave and that the situation will be more favourable in 2025. Despite this, Real Madrid have the option on the table, in the same way that their eyes are firmly fixed on Kylian Mbappé.
