Real Madrid players have taken to social media after their team had a last-gasp goal ruled out in the club’s 2-2 draw with Valencia at Mestalla on Saturday night.

With the sides level deep into injury time, Los Blancos thought they had scored the winning goal when Jude Bellingham headed home, only for referee Jesús Gil Manzano to blow the whistle for full-time as Brahim Díaz’s cross from the right was sent into the box.

Madrid players then surrounded the Spanish official as they protested seconds after the final whistle and Bellingham received a red card for displaying his frustration at full-time in Valencia. Vinícius Júnior - who grabbed a brace on the night - as well as midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, took to social media soon after the LaLiga encounter to make their feelings known. Tchouaméni wrote: “That’s embarrassing”, while Vinícius posted a laughing emoji.

Speaking to the media post-match, Valencia forward Hugo Duro admitted that he was surprised by the referee’s decision on the night. “I understand why Real Madrid are angry,” he said. “You should either blow the whistle before the cross or after the cross. I don’t understand why it took the referee so long to blow it.”
