Real Madrid star will miss trip for Bayern Munich second leg

Aurélien Tchouaméni will not be available for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal. The Real Madrid midfielder entered the first leg as one of seven players at risk of suspension under Álvaro Arbeloa, and in a game of this magnitude, avoiding a booking always looked unlikely. In the 36th minute, he brought down a Bayern Munich move led by Olise, and referee Michael Oliver had no hesitation in awarding the foul and showing a yellow card.

What other players were at risk of ban?

It is a significant setback for Madrid, given Tchouaméni’s importance across all tactical setups, but UEFA’s strict disciplinary rules in the Champions League have left the Spanish side walking a fine line. Alongside the Frenchman, who will now miss the trip to the Allianz Arena, the players still one booking away from suspension are Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Huijsen, Carreras, and Rodrygo.

Bayern, by contrast, arrived at this quarterfinal tie in a far more comfortable disciplinary position. Even so, they also have two key figures at risk of missing the return leg if booked: Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano.
