There is good news for Real Madrid fans after France international Karim Benzema trained normally on Monday in Los Angeles and is aiming to get his first minutes of pre-season match action during the friendly against Club América in San Francisco on Tuesday night.
Real Madrid’s training session on Monday did see the French striker require attention to a problem with his knee but he managed to conclude the session and is expected to feature in the game against the Liga MX side. Borja Mayoral too will be available for selection after complications relating to his covid status saw his arrival in the US delayed.
Meanwhile, Ferland Mendy departed Monday’s session some 10 minutes before its conclusion, as the French left-back struggles with an ongoing injury issue. Mendy returned to the dressing room accompanied by club physios, and is a doubt for the América clash.
One man who is definitely out of the game is Dani Carvajal, who for the third consecutive day was unable to train with his team-mates as he continues his recovery from a sprained ankle. The right-back is working to be fit for the final match of Madrid’s US tour on Friday.
Ancelotti’s men were very intense and focused in Monday’s session with their immediate priority being the European Super Cup in Helsinki (Finland) against German side Eintracht Frankfurt on 10 August.
Madrid will take on Club América on Tuesday night at Oracle Park, the home stadium of the San Francisco Giants baseball team against the most decorated side in Mexican club soccer in the shape of Club América.
Los Blancos will then return to Los Angeles to play Juventus on 30 July to end the Soccer Champions Tour in the United States.
