Tottenham are not in the Premier League relegation zone only because Aston Villa did them a favor on Sunday by beating West Ham, the third-from-bottom side now just one point behind Spurs. The north London club, in its worst run of form in years, were beaten 3-0 at home by a Forest team that has struggled itself but moved ahead in the standings thanks to goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi.

The crisis at Tottenham, who have yet to win a single Premier League game in 2026, goes beyond results to a loss of identity. Son’s departure in the summer after the Europa League triumph, a title that masked another poor league campaign, left a leadership void that big-money signings such as Simons, Kudus and Gallagher, as well as managerial changes, have failed to fill. Thomas Frank’s spell was brief, and Igor Tudor’s arrival has not stopped the slide, particularly after the humiliating Champions League elimination at the hands of Atlético Madrid.

Tottenham facing relegation

With key absences like James Maddison and a defense that concedes with alarming ease, Tottenham face an unthinkable scenario: relegation from a division they have not left since 1977. Chairman Daniel Levy, the architect of the club’s rise into the Big Six, is running out of options as supporters move past calls for change and begin demanding accountability.

For now, the international break offers a lifeline, giving Tudor’s side a chance to reset ahead of the final stretch of the season. The objective is clear: avoid relegation. The reckoning over the direction of a project that appears to have hit rock bottom will come later.
