RFEF prepare documents in order to sack Spain Women’s National Team manager, Jorge Vilda
The RFEF are studying the necessary documents to be able to relieve Jorge Vilda of his duties as manager of the Spanish Women’s National Team.
Jorge Vilda’s minutes are numbered as manager of the Women’s National Team and very soon he will be relieved of his duties.
The board of directors at the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) are studying the documentation required in order to sack Jorge Vilda from his position as boss of the national team. After the meeting between the Territorial Presidents’ Committee, the general feeling was that Vilda already had one foot out of the door at the Las Rozas training camp in Madrid.

The Territorial presidents do not have the executive power to make and carry out a decision of this magnitude, and the sacking would depend solely on the board of directors at the highest level of the Federation, led by Pedro Rocha, who is taking the place of the suspended Luis Rubiales on an interim basis.
In the official statement that was published by the Federation, Vilda was not mentioned, although his name and his dismissal - did indeed cross the lips of those present in the room for over 6 hours while the meeting took place.
Vilda’s position was hanging by a thread after the public declaration of the 15 players who declared themselves unfit for selection and everything that has happened with Jenni Hermoso since the World Cup success in Sydney.
Vilda’s statement did not wash with the RFEF
The supposed pressure on Jenni for her to appear in Rubiales’ apology video during the flight layover in Doha was the straw that broke the camel’s back. “After everything that happened during the Women’s World Cup, we want to publicly state that all the players who have signed this document will not return to the National Team under the current management”, signed the 23 world champions along with many other players in a statement. They did not only refer to Rubiales but the entire management structure at the RFEF.
Vilda was also singled out for applauding Rubiales in public during the then-President’s speech during the General Assembly. In fact, he had to put out his own public statement, saying that “there is no doubt that this is unacceptable and does not reflect the principles and values that I defend in my life, in sport in general and in particular, football. I strongly condemn any sexist attitude, one that is a long way from an advanced and developed society”.
Nobody has saved him. In other words, his dismissal will be announced shortly.
Will Luis de la Fuente be sacked?
The manager of the men’s national team will not follow in the footsteps of Jorge Vilda.
Despite the spotlight being shone firmly on De la Fuente following his applause of Rubiales’ speech, the manager will remain in charge and will on Friday present his squad list for the upcoming games against Georgia and Cyprus.
As well as this, as has been reported by Antón Meana of Spanish radio channel, Cadena SER, more people will be dismissed from the RFEF, such as Andreu Camps (Secretary General), Tomás González Cueto (external lawyer) and Miguel García Caba (Department of Integrity), although it is likely they are not the only ones who will leave in what promises to be a true organisational shakeup.
