Speculation concerning the future of Paraguayan Richard Sánchez have come to an end and with good news for América.

The midfielder’s contract was due to end next summer with no certainty that he would continue at the club. There was even suggestions that Monterrey were willing to make him an offer to join them on a free transfer.

However, according to Mexican sports daily Récord, Sánchez has reached an agreement with the Americanist board, headed by Santiago Baños, to renew his contract and remain at least two more years in Coapa.

In spite of receiving offers from other clubs, it was Richard’s priority to stay on with América, where for coach André Jardine, he is a fundamental piece in the team. That commitment facilitated the negotiations between the two parties.

The Paraguayan, whose contract was due to expire on 31 December, is set to sign a two-year extension with the Azulcremas, with the possibility of a third year, depending on his performances.

Richard joined América in the summer of 2019, signing a four-year contract from Olimpia. During that time he has played 138 games for the club, scoring 14 goals, mostly long-distance shots - his speciality.

América’s run continues

América beat Atlético San Luis 0-1 at Alfonso Lastras stadium on Wednesday night in Week 15 of the Apertura 2023. The result puts the Eagles on 36 points - eight points clear at the top of the table and already qualified for the playoffs.
