French news outlet L’Équipe has reported this morning that Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mané will miss the 2022 Qatar World Cup due to injury.

Bayern Munich beat Werder Bremen 6-1 last night (8 November) to move 4 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga but Mané was substituted off after just 15 minutes into the first half after taking a blow to his shin. Bayern boss Nagelsmann later said that he was to have a knee scan to determine the extent of the injury. It appears as though the worst news has been confirmed.

Sadio Mané's Senegal side are in Group A of the tournament and will face The Netherlands, Ecuador and the hosts, Qatar. The Senegal squad is set to be announced on Friday.

The forward had played 14 times in the league for Bayern this season, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists. In the Champions League he had shone, scoring 3 in 6 matches, as well as getting one assist. In 2021, Mané took Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations final, where they won, defeating Egypt on penalties.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
