Isco will undoubtedly be one of the big name transfers in this winter window. After his brief, five-month adventure at Sevilla, the ex-madridista is now looking for a new project and his status as a free agent is an opportunity that several clubs are considering. Serie A, which in recent years has become a perfect setting for stars in the final phase of their careers, is a league which boasts a number of clubs who have had their eyes on the Spanish playmaker during the past few years. Fiorentina were rumoured to be keen on signing him last summer, and more recently, Salernitana are the latest club to be linked to the midfielder.

The club’s owner, Danilo Iervolino, recently completed the signing of Guillermo Ochoa (Man of the Match in his debut against AC Milan) and, after having tried to sign Edinson Cavani a few months ago, continue in their quest to sign players with an international-level profile. Isco, in that regard, would have been perfect for the project, but, apparently, the operation will not go ahead.

Morgan De Sanctis, the club’s sports director, confirmed to Sportitalia that there were contacts for the Spaniard, but he did not give the tifosi any hope: “There were several guys who proposed Isco to us, but afterwards, for one reason or another, none of them wanted to complete the operation. In football, these things often happen”. Meanwhile, the list of Isco’s suitors continues to grow - Mourinho’s Roma and Sarri’s Lazio could also be interested in signing the player on a free transfer this month.
