Portuguese league champions Benfica have joined the long list of clubs that are reportedly interested in signing El Tri and Feyenoord striker, Santiago Giménez.

According to the Portuguese newspaper Récord, the side led by Roger Schmidt have the Feyenoord forward high on their list of candidates to reinforce the squad for next season.

The Portuguese club’s interest in Giménez is due to the strong possibility that Gonçalo Ramos will leave the team during the summer transfer window.

Where will Gonçalo Ramos go?

Ramos has been linked with a variety of clubs, including Real Madrid, but the firm interest is said to come from the Premier League. Santiago Giménez is seen by Benfica as the perfect replacement for the striker, who kept Cristiano Ronaldo out of the Portugal side in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Schdmit already knows what it’s like to work with Mexican soccer players after he managed Javier Hernández during his time at Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

Spurs also keen on Giménez

It should be remembered that Tottenham in the English Premier League are also said to have lined up Santiago Giménez as a potential target; the 22-year-old has been a key player for the national team during their recent resurgence under new manager Jaime Lozano, and scored the only goal to win the most recent edition of the Gold Cup, defeating Panama in the final.

Media outlet Jóvenes Futbolistas MX reported that, given the high possibility of Spurs striker Harry Kane finally packing his bags in search for trophies, the London club have the Mexican forward as one of their possible options to replace the outgoing goalscorer.
