Schlotterbeck gives his side of the Real Madrid rumors: “You hear about those things”

José Mourinho wants more. The Portuguese coach arrived with a clear objective: strengthen the squad and return Real Madrid to the fight for major trophies. Nothing is official yet, but unless something changes at the last minute, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva are expected to join the club in the coming days.

Despite the imminent arrivals of defenders Konaté and Dumfries, Mourinho is still looking for another versatile defender capable of playing both at center back and full back. As we previously reported, Joško Gvardiol and Riccardo Calafiori are the preferred options for both the coach and the club, although other alternatives are being considered if neither player can be prised away from Manchester City or Arsenal.

According to reports from Germany, specifically Sky Sports, Real Madrid have not forgotten about Nico Schlotterbeck. The club have been monitoring the defender for some time and he is viewed as the third option on their shortlist. Currently away with Germany at the World Cup, Schlotterbeck was asked about the reported interest from Madrid.

“Yes, of course you hear about those things through the media, but as I said a few weeks ago, right now all the focus is on the World Cup and the opening match,” said the Borussia Dortmund defender.

Schlotterbeck signed a new contract with Dortmund just a few months ago, but reportedly left the door open to a future move abroad through a release clause available to clubs outside the Bundesliga. The fee is believed to be around $58 million. It promises to be a long summer inside Real Madrid’s offices.
