The Seattle Sounders will make their Club World Cup debut against Egyptian side Al Ahly in the second round of the tournament on 4 February 2023, with a place in the semi-final up for grabs. The game will take place at the Tangier Stadium, with the Sounders becoming the first ever MLS representation in the tournament.

Al Ahly cruised past Auckland City 3-0 in the game on 1 February, with the Australian side not able to put up a fight in the second half after the Egyptian club turned up the gears and ramped up the intensity. Goals from El Shahat, Sherif and Percy tau were too much for Auckland to cope with and they go out with a whimper in the first round of the newly expanded tournament.

Al Ahly racked up a quite impressive 21 shots compared to the 3 that Auckland City had, with 14 of them inside the area. Adam Mitchell made the night even worse for the losing side with a late red card in the 97th minute, compounding the defeat even more.

The winners will face Real Madrid

The winner of the second round game between Seattle Soudners and Al Ahly will play against Real Madrid in one of the semi-finals. The other semi final includes the winner of Wydad SC vs al Hilal, and they will play Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo for a place in the final.

More detail:

Flamengo will play their semi-final on 7 February with Real Madrid’s taking place a day later, on the 8th. The final will be held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, on 11 February. Don’t miss a minute: all the action will be covered on en.as.com.
