Sebastián Jurado speaks about being frozen out at Cruz Azul

The Veracruz goalkeeper has not played a single minute for the Máquina since the scandalous defeat to América in last year’s tournament.

The last time Sebastián Jurado played in a Liga MX match was on 20 August 2022 - the tragic night when Cruz Azul were thrashed 7-0 by América.

That defeat triggered the dismissal of coach Diego Aguirre - and also the return to the bench for the goalkeeper from Veracruz, who has not played a single minute in the Liga MX since then. For the following five months he was either on the bench or not included in the squad at all. Logically, despair has taken over the 25-year-old goalkeeper, who expressed his frustration in a message on his Instagram account.

What has Jurado said about his situation?

Completely erased from the team by current Cruz Azul coach Raúl Gutiérrez, Jurado confessed, “Very rarely have I expressed how difficult many moments in sport have been for me, because they certainly have been. Do they hurt and affect you? The simple answer is YES. But when mind, soul, body and heart work together driven by God, there is no situation, circumstance or adversity that can stop you”.

In spite of the difficult moment he is experiencing, the keeper insists that he won’t give up. “It is irrational to think of giving up, when something is just beginning. I give thanks for all of the good things - and also for the bad, because that’s how you learn, grow and move on”, he continued.

The Veracruz-born keeper concluded: “There is no TRIUMPH without defeat, nor SUCCESS without failure. Go Cruz Azul! Let’s go all out for EVERYTHING”.
