Premier League fixtures could be moved due to Queen’s funeral

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II could force the postponement of the three matches being played in London next weekend.

London could be without the Premier League for another weekend, according to The Athletic. The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which will be held next Monday 19 September, would force many police officers to be redeployed at short notice meaning the London clubs could be forced to play away from home.

However, a possible solution is still being discussed because it is not expected to be well received by the clubs, who would have to host a match and sell match tickets in a very short space of time. It could be the second weekend in a row where London would have no Premier League games.

London fixtures in doubt

In total, between Saturday 17 September and Sunday 18 September, three matches were scheduled to take place in London: Tottenham-Leicester, Brentford-Arsenal and Chelsea-Liverpool. All three are still up in the air, especially the Brentford-Arsenal clash as both clubs are based in the capital.
