Sevilla vs Real Madrid: as it happened
Full time thoughts:
Well, that game had everything. Both sides threw all they had a the match that nobody - except the referee - wanted to end. Real Madrid had the majority of the ball and the chances, but Sevilla's pressure came in waves and Diego Alonso will be delighted with the effort he saw from his side.
It looked as though En Nesyri had given his side the victory with a late header but Dani Carvajal's effort equalised just moments later.
Before that, Real Madrid had put the ball in the back of the net on two occasions, with the referee, who had a difficult night, ruling them both out.
The game was full of tough tackles, angry faces, loud chants and fabulous football, which is exactly what we expected. Sergio Ramos was also at the heart of everything good - and bad - that Sevilla did.
Let's leave it there...

Carlo Ancelotti reveals his reason for praising referee:
Irony is the only way to explain myself after that game. If I say what I think I'll be banned for a long time. To sit on the bench, which is what I love doing the most, I don't say what I think and I use irony.
Sevilla release a statement on a fan incident:
Sevilla FC would like to communicate that, after detecting xenophobic and racist behaviour, a member of the public was identified, ejected from the stadium and handed over to legal authorities. The individual will also be subject to the club’s vigorous internal disciplinary protocols and have their membership revoked.
Sevilla FC condemns all racist and xenophobic behaviour and will work closely with the authorities to ensure that action is taken accordingly. This behaviour does not belong at Sevilla FC.
Carlo Ancelotti post-game:
For me Rodrygo was one of the best, if not the best player on the pitch. He had more shots than the rest, he did his best. He hasn't failed, the important thing is that he continues to play well.
I loved seeing [Sergio Ramos], saying hello to him and wishing him the best.
Rodrygo and Vinicius created many chances in the first half, we were close to scoring. In the second half we lacked energy, we suffered more and we didn't have control like we wanted.
Dani Carvajal's full-time thoughts:
"A point that doesn't taste like much, let's keep fighting. Hala Madrid"
Carlo Ancelotti post-game:
The referee had a good game, he did everything right.
Opta with the stats we want to see:
It wasn't Sergio Ramos with a late goal to give Madrid the points, but Los Blancos will just be glad he didn't do it for Sevilla tonight.
As for Sevilla...
While the results doesn't revolutionise the league table for Sevilla, it's undoubtedly an important point at the start of Diego Alonso's reign and a huge sense of momentum and trust in the plan.

Los Blancos will stay top whatever happens as the gap is too big for any team to overtake them, but their title rivals will be pleased that they didn't manage to find a late goal at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

The captain leads his team to a point
Carvajal had a solid game and sealed it with a goal that gave his side a valuable point on the road.
FULL TIME!
What a game! In the end, the points are shared as Diego Alonso gets a much-deserved point in his first game as Sevilla boss.
SAVED BY NYLAND
The ball is about 28 yards out, just to the left of the centre.
Kroos and Alaba are over the ball... we are well past the added time now.
Bellingham goes down on the edge of the box and the referee has blown for a free-kick. Lamela and the entire Sevilla squad are furious as he certainly got the ball.
Into the final minute of play...
Brahim steals the ball and plays a slicing pass through the lines but it is way too heavy for Bellingham - who still doesn't look tired - and Nyland collects.
Kepa had left his line, Ramos had beaten Rüdiger to the ball - but theeffort flew over the empty goal from just centimetres out!
RAMOS HEADS OVER FROM A YARD OUT
Ocampos goes down on the edge the box - but he wants a penalty...
The referee has given a free-kick, on the right side. Plenty of Sevilla players want to whip this in.
We have a small stoppage in play as Rakitic goes down... he's OK to carry on.
SEVEN added minutes.
Sevilla defend well and counter, with Camavinga getting back to stop the attack.
Badé heads out Brahim's cross and Real Madrid have a corner.
We're into the final minute of the game.
Acuña floors Brahim as the winger gets a warm welcome into the game. Nothing from the referee.
Fran García & Brahim ON
Mendy & Vini Jr OFF
Rafa Mir & Lamela ON
En Nesyri & Sow OFF
We're back underway.
It's Vini Jr and Nyland who seem to be involved....
The Brazilian gave Nyland a small shove and the goalkeeper crashed to the ground like a dying swan, causing the Sevilla players to surround Real Madrid's winger.
Wow, a huge fight has broken out on the pitch...
Badé's header lands straight to Vini Jr on the right, but his cross to Bellingham is awkward and Sevilla scramble back as he takes a touch to control the ball.
Navas beat Mendy and the cross was cleared to Ocampos on the edge of the box, who smashed his effort over the bar!
OCAMPOS FIRES OVER THE BAR
Modric and Kroos interchange the ball between each other like it's 2015 and Real Madrid calm the Sevilla tsunami, for now.
Sevilla are pushing and are firing all types of crosses into the box. Real Madrid need to find the ball and control at some point, or there's only one way this goes.
Unbelievable. That guy...
Real Madrid survive.
WHAT A SAVE FROM KEPA
IT WAS SERGIO RAMOS WITH A HEADER!!!!
Sevilla have a corner in this crazy game... it's surely not Ramos time just yet, right?
Joselu ON
Rodrygo OFF
The right-back beats Sevilla's goalscorer at the front post and smashes Kroos' cross past Nyland!
CARVAJAL WITH A HEADER FROM THE FRONT POST
Real Madrid have a free-kick on the right side of the box, close to the corner flag...
More changes incoming...
Badé ON
Gudelj OFF
The ball comes in from Acuña on the left and lands at the feet of En Nesyri, just in front of the goal. It's actually centre-back Alaba who gets the final touch, unwillingly using his chest to push the ball past Kepa.
EN NESYRI
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL
SEVILLA SCORE WITH JUST OVER 15 MINUTES TO GO!!!!
Real Madrid get their turn to shoot, and this time it's Rodrygo, whose left-footed effort curls wide of Nyland in the Sevilla goal.
Kepa is forced into a save from an Ocampos header at the back post. Alaba's positioning was just enough to put off the winger, who did well himself to leap and make contact with Acuña's cross.
Modric spoons a terrible effort way over from the edge of the box in what he will no doubt see as a huge chance wasted.
Bellingham had started the move, driving ferociously into the box from 30 yards out, setting up the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner.
Ocampos almost gets a head on Acuña's cross, but Madrid defend firmly. Navas whips in from the other side and En Nesyri fires wide.
Suso ON
Lukébakio OFF
Modric & Camavinga ON
Tchouaméni and Valverde OFF
Modric and Camavinga are set to join the action.
The referee's expression is how I'd look if I had accidentally left the gate open at the puppy farm. He's got 41,212 screams coming from all sides as he tries horribly to control the 22 increasingly furious/intense/explosive players on the pitch.
Vinicius has a foul blown against him, causing the winger to react as he wanted to continue the play. Sevilla's players aren't happy with his reaction and want a yellow or a strong telling-off from Mr Referee, who is losing control by the second.
Sevilla seem to have remembered that they're allowed to score, too. The home side race forward like they're being pulled on strings by the fans, causing Real Madrid to drop back just as quickly. A huge surge of pressure from nowhere ends with a floated cross from the right that sails over everyone and out of play.
CHANCE!
Nyland with another save from Rodrygo effort: this time the forward tires to chip his opponent from inside the box but an extendo-arm is stretched high into the air to push the effort away.
Stunning buildup play from Real Madrid leads to Valverde's chipped cross from the right landing at the feet of Rodrygo, just a few yards out. The Brazilian's touch is sublime and kills the ball dead before seeing Nyland race out to stop the shot from close range.
HUGE SAVE FROM NYLAND
Great work from Bellingham on the left wins a corner for his side. Mazy runs from the Englishman and Vini Jr caused momentary chaos in the Sevilla back line, but they defend well and survive.
Soumaré, after a quick checkup, is back on the pitch and the ball is rolling once again.
Joselu, Camavinga and Modric are all warming up for Real Madrid. As for Sevilla, Fernando is going through an intense warmup routine as Soumaré looks to have injured his shoulder. Let's see if we get a change.
The referee is struggling to keep control of the game, with players on both sides visibly frustrated at his decisions. Every blow of the whistle comes with complaints.
Ah, the referee did eventually give a free-kick. Real Madrid defend well and break, with Kroos smashing a low drive wide from distance.
It was a perfect shoulder barge, but Navas needs treatment as he did take a hit.
Huge screams from all four sides of the ground as Mendy gets himself between the ball and Jesús Navas, shoving the right-back to the ground.
Rakitic has the first shot of the second half as he fires a simple effort straight at Kepa from the edge of the area.
And we're off again!
No changes for either side as Madrid get us going for the second half.
And here come the home side. We'll be back underway any moment now!
Real Madrid's players are first out of the tunnel.

Half-time thoughts:
It's been an incredible game of football, full of chances, no-goals and insane levels of intensity from the first whistle.
Real Madrid have had more of the ball, and probably the better chances, but I can't decide whether or not they should be ahead, as at times Sevilla have defended superbly well, especially 1vs1 moments that Vinicius has had.
The ball was in the back of the net within 5 minutes but the referee then ruled out Valverde's effort for offside. Since then, it's been blink-and-you'll-miss-it football, which has endlessly swung from one end of the pitch to the other.
SergioRamos has, as we all expected, been at the centre of most things, and saved his side from a certain David Alaba goal.
Half time!
No goals at the break, but we've had just about everything else. What a game.
Ramos and Rüdiger clash. The Spaniard grabs the German by the face and the current Real Madrid centre-back simply laughs his socks off at the attempt to scare him.
3 added minutes. I'm astonished.
We're into the final minute of normal time in the first half.
Vini Jr is brought down in the box and wants a penalty after feeling a supposed shove from Navas. Referee says no chance. Tick that off your bingo card.
The corner is floated to the edge of the box and smashed towards goal by Gudelj. The centre-back's shot is wayward but Ocampos gets a header on it, sending it just wide!
JUST WIDE FROM OCAMPOS
Alaba sticks a foot in as En Nesyri is slipped in behind and Sevilla win a corner.
A stunning (and incredibly poorly defended) ball is floated over the top from Rüdiger and Vinicius Jr meets it on the volley, firing a shot at the body of Nyland!
HUGE SAVE FROM NYLAND!!!
Acuña's cover run is smart and means Vini Jr can't get a touch as he's slipped in behind by Bellingham through the middle. Fab defending from the world champion.
Real Madrid attack with Vinicius, Bellingham and Rodrygo all down the left, but there's nobody in the box, slowing the away side down. This gives time for Gudelj to get back and save the day, robbing the Brazilian winger of the ball.
Ten minutes until half-time, and madre mía, this game hasn't disappointed.
We just need a penalty and a runaway dog on the pitch and our bingo card will be full.
Ramos saves his side!!!
The ball is fired in low and finds Alaba, who swipes a foot at it towards goal, but Ramos is there to somehow get a leg on the ball at the final moment!
OFF THE LINE!
Gudelj brings down Vini Jr on the left side of the box, close to the corner flag. A great chance to whip the ball in.
Kroos misplaces a long pass alarm! It's all happening at the Sánchez Pizjuán today, boys and girls.
Two balls on the pitch alarm!
Carvajal heads Lukebakio's cross back to Kepa and Madrid recover the ball. There have been some fantastic long passes from both Ocampos and Rakitic towards Lukebakio on the right wing as the home side look to isolate him 1vs1 with Mendy.
Huge whistles from the home fans aimed at Dani Carvajal as the right-back almost begins to levitate off the ground in anger at a handball decision not going his way. The noise from the crowd is deafening.
Real Madrid have decided to keep the ball in the middle third in an attempt to calm the crowd and players.
Vinicius slides a pass down the left wing towards Bellingham, but Gudelj is there to swipe it away.
Ocampos' flick to Sow sends the midfielder through 1vs1 against Kepa, but his shot is put just wide of the far post!
SEVILLA MISS ANOTHER HUGE CHANCE
Carvajal loses out to Ocampos, who races down the wing. His pass goes square to Rakitic, but he sees his shot cleared off the line by Carvajal.
The rebound shot comes in and is stopped by a fantastic leap towards the top corner from Kepa!
HUGE SAVE FROM KEPA
OFF THE LINE FROM CARVAJAL
Fantastic play from the home side to drag Real Madrid across the field of play before bursting forward at pace thanks to a slicing pass from Rakitic.
The move ends with Ocampos, who hits a weak shot towards the goal-Kepa.
Sevilla are having their best spell of possession right now, and have Real Madrid pinned back as they pass the ball across the pitch.
Sevilla move the ball well from back to front but the ball rolls too far away from Ocampos and Madrid win possession back.
Los Blancos break but Mendy's pass is poor and sails out of play as Vini looks back with a face of frustration.
Jesús Navas fails to control a seemingly easy pass from Rakitic. I think the pitch condition isn't great.
We've seen heavy rain across Spain over the past few days, so that most probably has something to do with it.
Vinicius Jr breaks away down the left after a nice ball is sprayed wide by Alaba.
He wins a corner after Sergio Ramos comes flying in to help Jesús Navas-
Neither team can keep hold of the ball for any decent length of time, with the press from both sides utterly suffocating.
Vini Jr gives the ball away to Rakitic, who drives towards goal. He shoots from long range but his effort is horribly spooned way over Kepa's goal.
OK, after Sevilla's 5th foul of the game and another stoppage, we're back underway. The home side are looking to break down Real Madrid's defensive block.
I cannot stress how tense and full-on this game is after just 10 minutes. Both teams are flying into every challenge.
Madrid have the ball in the net once again, but we've got a bit of a confusion. The referee had stopped play but Real Madrid carried on and eventually Bellingham rolled the ball into the goal at the other end of the pitch. Half of the Sevilla team had stopped.
Nyland gets out well to catch a ball over the top that had Rodrygo chasing it like an excitable puppy.
For you kit nerds out there, Real Madrid, due to Sevilla's white, white, black combo, are in a nice mix of black shirts, black shorts and white socks.
We're back underway. What a start to the game!
NO GOAL!
OFFSIDE!
It seems that Bellingham was actually offside in the buildup!
Bellimgham goes to challenge a header close to the Sevilla goalkeeper, who doesn't get to the ball. It rolls to Fede Valverde on the right side of the goal and from a tight angle the player slides the ball in!
FEDE VALVERDE
CHANCE REAL MADRID
Alaba gets back to cover as En Nesyri is played through by Rakitic.
Good work from the Austrian but it was a gaping hole in the Madrid back line.
Ramos' first moment in the game is a foul on Rodrygo.
Both teams are out to press as Bellingham is fouled in the centre of the pitch by Sow. Real Madrid are getting their first touches on the ball.
And we're off!
Sevilla get us going from right to left.
Here come the two teams!
The players leave the tunnel and step onto the pitch - and what a noise from the crowd!
Diego Alonso's final words ahead of KO:
"Always with 11 players, guys, always.
This game is like a fight in the street, if they hit you and there's blood, some people run away.
If they hit us and we bleed, we go at them. And again. And again."
Ten minutes to go!
Both teams are making their way down the tunnel for the final team talks ahead of kick-off!
Opta with the goods again...
Maybe the man in the spotlight can turn that statistic around, he just needs to make sure that things go better than against Barcelona, where he scored an own-goal in a 1-0 win for the Catalan side.
While I'm doing the reminders, here's theinfo on how to watch the game as Sevilla take to the pitch for the first time ahead of kick-off to start their pre-game warmup routine.
The seats are slowly filling up, and the atmosphere is building in the ground!

In other football news, Sir Bobby Charlton, who won the 1966 World Cup with England, has passed away.
“Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world.
“He was admired as much for his sportsmanship and integrity as he was for his outstanding qualities as a footballer; Sir Bobby will always be remembered as a giant of the game", said Manchester United's statement.

Real Madrid to wear their 'charcoal' third kit:
The jersey also displays a dark charcoal tone in the three stripes on the shoulders. Its design is elegant yet sporty, creating a versatile, simple and elegant garment, says the Real Madrid official statement.
Can't argue with that, then.

Los Blancos are in fantastic form and only have the derby defeat to Atlético Madrid as a red mark on their recent run of results. Carlo Ancelotti's side have historically found life tough at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, but they will be hoping to silence the always lively crowd and continue their march at the top of the LaLiga table.

The Andalucian team come into the game with a point to prove and a big three points on the line. They'll be looking to use the new-manager bounce and their solid home atmosphere to push them on and get them another rare win in LaLiga. As you can see from the list above, they only have 1 win in their last 5.

Well, you're in luck. Here's all the info.
Real Madrid arrive!
Carlo leads the way as Los Blancos arrive at the stadium, with just under an hour to go until kick-off.
Sevilla's league postion:
While things look rosy for Real Madrid, the same can't be said for Sevilla, who sit in a measly 14th position.
Their recent domestic history has not been ideal, with the team fighting a genuine battle against relegation last season.
José Luis Mendilibar came in and brought with him a sense of normality and simplicity, but he was shown the door after a run of bad results ahead of the international break.
In his place came DiegoAlonso, who had a great record in Mexico before leading Uruguay to a disappointingWorldCupcampaign in which they failed to get out of the group.

Sevilla team news in!
Sergio Ramos makes Diego Alonso's starting XI against his former side.
Nyland starts in goal with JesúsNavas, Gudelj, Ramos and Acuña in front of him.
Soumaré and Rakitic hold the midfield with Sow, Ocampos, Lukebakio and En-Nesyri ahead of them.
Sevilla's players arrive at the stadium!
The Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán is one of Spain's most atmospheric and dazzling stadiums - expect nothing different today!
Pre-game quotes from Carlo:
The team's on a good run and it's going to be an important week, starting tomorrow. But we're well prepared for it. I'm worried about quite a few things this week. The Sevilla game will be very demanding.
They’ve changed coach they have a lot of quality in their squad. It's going to be a tough match. I'm more concerned that we might've forgotten what we did before the international break. We were playing well and I hope we can get back to the same level.
It's important to know where each player wants to play. Sometimes the demands of the team mean that some players have to make sacrifices. Camavinga, Tchouameni or Rodrygo have done that. Rodrygo is a complete forward and can play in the centre, as he did at Napoli.
My idea is that the team's demands come first and then the individual's. When I put Camavinga at left-back I told him and none of my players disagreed. I put Sergio Ramos in a defensive-midfield position in one game and he didn't like it, but he did it for the team. There is only one word to explain this: altruism.
The current values of Vinicius, Rodrygo and Militao compared to the outlay for their signing is impressive, and Endrick is next to arrive.
The young Brazilian will join the squad next summer for a transfer fee of 35 million that has been paid to Palmeiras.
Here, Calum breaks down the other successful and not-so-successful deals Real Madrid have signed off with prospects from the South American country.
Who's that familiar face?
It's alovelygraphic from the Sevilla social media department, but if you look closely at the face of the man in white at the bottom... it's Sergio Ramos!
Indeed, the ex-Real Madrid captain is facing his old team today and will certainly be the figure in the spotlight before, during and after the game.
Well, that is if the man who can be seen running away from him doesn't steal everyone's attention...
Real Madrid XI announced!
Kepastarts behind Carvajal, RüdigerAlaba and Mendy, who makes it over Camavinga.
Then we've got Tchouaméniholding the fort with Kroos, Valverde and Bellingham ahead of him.
The two Brazilians, Vini Jr andRodrygo, get the nod up top.
Your thoughts on the XI? Let us know on Twitter/X, @English_AS
How things look at the top of the table:
For RealMadrid, things haven't gone too badly so far this season, and they currently sit at the top of the LaLiga tree, two points ahead of the Catalan giants. They're three points ahead of Barcelona, who play tomorrow.

Will Vini continue his goal scoring form?
The Brazilian comes off the back of a long journey away with his national team, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the winger get on the scoresheet once again this season.
Team news: Sevilla
The home side are without both Marcao and former Real Madrid, erm, sort-of-player, Mariano.
On the other hand, Lamela and Nianzou did indeed manage to make Diego Alonso's squad for the game, which is a huge plus.
Team news: Real Madrid
Let's start off with Los Blancos, who still have the two big hitters, Courtois and Militão, out with long-term injuries.
On the short-term injury list is poor little Arda Güler, who can't catch a break. The Turkish delight has been ruled out for a further 2 weeks, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in his recent press conference. Poor guy.
Welcome!
Time to crack open the good stuff!
Football is back, people. OK, it never left, but be honest with yourself: how much did you really watch during the international break?
Goal videos and highlight reels don’t count.
Now we’re back and two big hitters are set to go head-to-head in one of LaLiga’s most historic and feisty games: Sevilla vs Real Madrid.
It's Joe here today to talk you through the action.
