Sir Alex Ferguson intimidates Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in hilarious video

To promote Wrexham’s summer friendly against Manchester United, Red Dragons owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney jump on a video call with Sir Alex.

Update:

Welsch soccer club Wrexham was bought by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020 and it’s now set to have its most high-profile match yet when they play Manchester United in a summer friendly. The game will take place on July 25 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, and it will be the first time Wrexham has ever played in the United States.

Sir Alex snubs Reynolds and McElhenney

To promote the friendly between Wrexham and United this summer, Reynolds and McElhenney made a video in which they have a video call with former United manager and legend, Sir Alexander Ferguson. In the video, the two Wrexham owners are excited to talk to the legendary Scot about the upcoming match, but it doesn’t exactly go as planned.

Before the call, Reynolds and McElhenney express their excitement, but Reynolds calls Sir Alex a “master intimidator”. When he answers, the two managers start talking excitedly, but Ferguson just stares at them, unimpressed, and says nothing. After several moments of awkward silence from Ferguson, Reynolds “panics” and makes up an excuse, telling Ferguson that McElhenney has a haircut appointment in Beverly Hills and then quickly hangs up.

Reynolds and McElhenney both look disappointed, but when the video cuts to Ferguson and he’s asked how the call went, he says “they were on mute...never heard a thing”.

The Hollywood stars are using their influence to try and promote the Welsch club, hoping to have it moved up to the fourth tier of English soccer by the time the game is played. Reynolds and McElhenney will play in the club’s million-dollar, seven-a-side tournament taking place this summer in North Carolina. An FX documentary about the club called “Welcome to Wrexham” has also brought some attention to the soccer club.
