Germany’s Bild led its sports coverage with the news, noting, “The team’s performances and results, sometimes disappointing, apparently did not meet Madrid’s high long-term expectations.”

The Athletic, which had defended Alonso after Real Madrid’s loss in the Clásico by saying he “showed he deserved more time,” now reflects on the challenge of the role: “Alonso’s struggle shows Madrid is world’s toughest coaching job“.
