The Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium (also known as the ‘Blue Stadium’) will open its doors again to stage top flight football as the 33,000 capacity ground will be home to both Cruz Azul and the Águilas del América for the Clausura 2024 (and other subsequent tournaments), until the Estadio Azteca undergoes a renovation process to ensure that the iconic ground in Santa Úrsula is 100% ready ahead of the World Cup in 2026.

With the start of the new tournament just a few days away, work has been carrying on around the clock to ensure that the facilities are ready to entertain top flight Liga MX action.,

According to information from Mexico City based, Adrián Esparza Oteo, work on the field, benches, stairs that connect with the playing field and the locker rooms are ongoing and that other minor aspects will be looked after in the forthcoming weeks.

Three teams will now use the facilities and along with America and Cruz Azul, the stadium has been home recently to the Potros de Hierro del Atlante (Atlante FC) who play in the Liga Expansión (second tier) so the playing area will certainly come under stress as the season evolves.

When will Liga MX games commence at the Estadio Azul?

Cruz Azul will return to what used be their former home and get the Liga MX action underway at their new temporary home as they face Tuzos del Pachuca this Saturday evening, 13 January.

Club America open their account at the Blue Stadium a week later as they welcome Queretaro to the Mexican capital.
