These Club América stars are certain - or likely - to miss Las Águilas’ Clausura opener
Head coach André Jardine could have up to four players out due to injury on Friday, when América kicks off the Clausura at Tijuana.
Club América is set to open up its Clausura 2026 campaign on Friday, January 9, against Tijuana - but Las Águilas have significant injury problems ahead of the clash at the Estadio Caliente
After an Apertura 2025 plagued by constant injuries, América continues to deal with physical issues. As the Clausura 2026 kicks off, América enters the new tournament looking more like a full‑on infirmary than a powerhouse of Mexican soccer.
América’s confirmed and possible absences
The uncertainty surrounding Rodrigo Dourado and the imminent departure of Igor Lichnovsky are forcing América to rethink its game plan. The club is searching for a clean slate after last season’s painful elimination at the hands of Monterrey, who beat André Jardine’s men 3-2 on aggregate in the quarterfinals.
Henry Martín
Captain Henry Martín has suffered yet another setback with muscular issues, ruling him out of América’s opener. His availability for Matchday 2 - just five days later - is also doubtful, keeping Jardine’s staff on high alert.
Alejandro Zendejas
Another key player set to be sidelined is Alejandro Zendejas, a fundamental piece in Jardine’s system. Although his muscle discomfort is considered mild, it may still prevent him from seeing minutes at Estadio Caliente, potentially weakening América’s attacking options.
Érick Sánchez
Midfielder Érick Sánchez, who finished last season injured, is still not ready to return at full capacity. The coaching staff prefers to be cautious with his recovery rather than risk him in a tough opening match against Xolos.
Isaías Violante
On the right flank, Isaías Violante has also been working separately due to muscular discomfort, which could limit his availability for Matchday 1. His progress over the next few days will be key for Jardine, who needs both defensive and attacking depth for the opener.
