This two-time Liga MX winner could be on his way to one of Mexico’s ‘big four’
Pumas are making progress in negotiations to sign Toluca’s Paraguayan striker Robert Morales ahead of the Clausura 2026 tournament.

Pumas continue to fine‑tune the final details of their plans for the 2026 Clausura, and one move gaining significant traction in recent days involves Paraguayan striker Robert Morales. According to journalist César Luis Merlo of Periódico AM, the Toluca forward is on Pumas’ shortlist to strengthen their attack, with negotiations between both clubs already in advanced stages.
Morales seeking greater game time
The interest from Los Auriazules stems from a clear need: adding a striker with recent experience in high‑stakes matches who is also looking for consistent minutes. Morales, a two‑time Liga MX champion with Toluca, fits that profile perfectly and is open to a change of scenery that would allow him to take on a bigger role.
Since arriving in Mexican soccer in 2023, Morales has been part of a golden stretch for Toluca, winning back-to-back Liga MX titles, along with the Campeón de Campeones and the Campeones Cup in 2025. However, his role within the attack has largely been secondary, due in great part to Paulinho’s status as the undisputed starter.
That lack of regular playing time is central to the evaluation from Morales and his camp. While he has featured in most matches, he hasn’t had the continuity a forward needs to stay in the conversation for the Paraguayan national team. Those around him have made it clear: the priority is finding a project where his minutes are guaranteed - something that currently seems unlikely at Toluca.

Pumas want goals and experience for the Clausura 2026
Pumas’ project for the Clausura 2026 is focused on reinforcing key areas without compromising balance. With César Garza, Tony Leone, Jordan Carrillo, and Juninho Vieira already brought in, the next step is strengthening the spine of the attack. In that context, Morales stands out as a proven option in Liga MX with international experience.
Efraín Juárez and his coaching staff value not only his finishing ability but also his experience in playoffs and finals - an element that has become crucial in the club’s recent planning. His arrival wouldn’t be a long‑term gamble, but rather an immediate solution for a tournament that will demand consistency from opening day.
The market landscape and timing of the deal
Although Morales’ camp acknowledges interest from Brazil and the Middle East, Pumas have emerged as strong contenders thanks to the opportunity to offer him a clearly defined role within the project. Talks with Toluca are progressing, and the deal could be finalized in the first days of January, right before the tournament begins.
For Pumas, completing this signing would mean rounding out a deeper attack ahead of a semester in which they’ll compete in both Liga MX and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Their season opener is set for Sunday, January 11, against Querétaro at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, and the front office is working against the clock to have the full squad ready.
