Rafael Santos Borré's future could be in Mexico, although there is a lot of distance to travel before that happens. Tigres are interested in the Colombian forward and have communicated an offer that sources who are aware of the specifics of the financial package say is “very significant”, but the German club have not accepted the proposal.

Borré is not happy with his role at Eintracht this season and the club have received interest from various teams during the course of the season, mostly from Spain and Italy. Added to the interest is now the firm offer from Tigres, but Eintracht are making things difficult; it is not the first offer they have rejected for the player: River Plate and Martín Demichelis asked to loan the player for the second half of the season but was met with a firm “no” from his club.

Last season was Santos Borré's best in terms of team and individual impact, but that has been lost this year. He played over 3,500 minutes, getting 12 goals, 8 assists and being a key player in Eintracht’s Europa League win, scoring and assisting against West Ham in the quarter-final. He was also on the scoresheet in the final against Rangers before putting away his penalty in the shootout.

However, his team carried out various plans to improve the frontline, bringing in Lucas Alario from Bayer Leverkusen and Kolo Muani from Nantes, moves that have significantly diminished the impact of the Colombian in the side. He has barely played: just 764 minutes this season, he has not started since October and did not make a appearance in the Champions League. Despite this, Eintracht still refuse to sell up.

Problems on the horizon for Eintracht

There is a lot of work to be done in their offices, as many players’ contracts are due to expire this summer, and not many are looking to renew. The Japanese player Kamada is perhaps the most curious of the cases, as he didn’t renew with the club and has now seen links with Borussia Dortmund rise to the surface, where he would arrive at no cost.

Ndicka, Almamy Touré, Hasebe and Schröder are all in the same boat, as are Knauff, Luca Pellegrini and Ebimbe, all currently on loan. What has made things very complicated is the position of the sporting director, Markus Krösche.

Santos Borré's value: on the way down?

According to Transfermarkt, Santos Borré's current value lies at around €16 million, which could be on its way down given the lack of game time the player is seeing. Right now, the German outfit is not moving, time will tell if they start to open the gates and allow someone in to talk or if Tigres up their “already very good” offer, according to sources. After being contacted by AS, Nicolás Petropulos, Santos Borré's agent, said Tigres is a club that “attracts the player, playing in Mexico is something he would be open to doing.”
