Tigres 1-1 Pumas: summary: score, goals, highlights, Liga MX Apertura 2023

Update:
Robert Siboldi head coach of Tigres during the Semifinals first leg match between Pumas UNAM and Tigres UANL as part of Torneo Apertura 2023 Liga BBVA MX, at Olimpico Universitario Stadium, December 07, 2023, in Mexico City.

Tigres - Pumas: Liga MX semi-final: as it happened

Tigres 1-1 Pumas

as.com

A clinical performance from Tigres as they always had the upper hand over Pumas despite going behind briefly having the double advantage of the one goal first leg lead and knowing that an overall tie would see the Nuevo Leon side advance.

Tigres now face Club America in a two legged Liga MX Apertura final with the first leg at El Volcan next Thursday and the second leg to be held at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday night.

The good news for the UANL side is the return to the team of Gignac.

as.com

The whistle sounds and Tigres UANL advance to the final of the 2023 Apertura final.

Gorriaran makes way for Fiero in the last switch for Tigres.

Ten minutes of the tie left.

We look like having a Club America-Tigres UANL final of the 2023 Liga MX Apertura.

as.com

Maybe harsh ?

Tigres really in the driving seat now.

as.com

That really could be curtains for Pumas who have to play the rest of the tie with ten men.

as.com

Straight red card for Bennevendo as he scythes into Lainez.

as.com
76

Less than 15 to go and Pumas are playing more and more in the Tigres half.

as.com

Silva picks up a card for a foul on Cordova.

as.com
72

We're deep inside the second half now and can't recall a Pumas attack on the Tigres goal in this second half.

as.com

Pumas have 20 minutes to address that matter but as things stand, the CDMX side are unable to carve any decent chances.

as.com

As things stand, we'll be back here in Nuevo Leon on Thursday for the first leg of the Liga MX Apertura 2023 final.

The second leg will be played at the Azteca on Sunday night when we discover which team will be crowned Mexican champion.

as.com

25 minutes left at El Volcan and Tigres are managing the game well.

Siboldi's side are very much in control.

No way through for Pumas and the visitors really do need an early goal to inject some hope into their outside chances of making the final.

as.com

Tigres seem very calm and collected aware that they have the tie by the scruff of the next with a two goal advantage.

as.com
50

Pumas enjoying the bulk of possession at the start of the half but they struggle in the final third when they come across the well drilled Tigres defence.

as.com

All the Pumas subs currently warming up.

as.com

Off we go.... 45 minutes to decide who will join America in the final.

as.com

The teams return to the pitch with the second half poised to start.

Pumas to start the second 45 minutes.

as.com

What can we expect from Antonio Mohamed in the second half?

At present his side needs two goals to progress.

I assume that if we hit the hour mark and Pumas still need two, the side from CDMX will go on all out attack.

as.com

Difficult but not impossible to see Pumas bag the two goals the need to advance.

The danger is always there by their positive play leading to gaps in defence and Tigres have players who can do damage in attack.

as.com
as.com

Pumas go close as Salvio's shot goes inches wide.

The whistle sounds and we head to the break.

as.com

Tigres subs warming up as we move into the fifth minute of added time.

as.com

Six minutes of time to be added on.

as.com
44

Good work from Pumas as the ball is drilled into the box but no-one in a white shirt is able to latch onto the delivery.

The visitors now win a dangerous free.

as.com

Pumas now need two goals to progress to the final.

as.com
39

Tigres have looked solid since the goal with Pumas now unable to find a way through the wall of yellow shirts.

as.com
35

Ten minutes of the half remaining and the game has flown by at a blistering pace.

Samir is back on the pitch and seems okay to carry on.

as.com

Samir leaves the pitch on the medical trolley and may need to be changed.

as.com

Tigres hit the crossbar as Gorriaran strikes after a great build-up move from the home side who are very much in the ascendancy now.

as.com
29

Delightful play from Tigres as they thread together a neat passing passage of play but fail to get a final shot off.

Corner at the other end for Pumas.

as.com

Huerta carded for a late challenge.

as.com

Juan Pablo Vigon strikes

Pressure on Pumas now as Tigres draw level.

as.com
as.com

Gooooooooool.

Tigres bounce back and find the net with their first shot of the game.

Vigon on target for the home side with a fine half vollley.

as.com
22

Past the 20 minute mark and already a tie with plenty of talking points ... the injury to Molina, penalty kick and Toro Fernandez goal.

as.com
20

Pumas playing with plenty of confidence now after the opening goal.

This scoreline however would see Tigres advance to the final.

as.com

Tigres 0-1 Pumas

Pumas looking good after the opening goal.

as.com
as.com

Toro Fernandez heads home from the resulting corner after the spot kick save.

as.com

Goooooooooool.

Pumas take a 0-1 lead.

as.com

But immediately afterwartds Pumas take the lead

as.com

Huerta to take the penalty.

The Mexico international has his spot kick saved by Guzman.

as.com

Spot kick for Pumas.

Aquino was the Tigres player who handled.

The referee opts to check the monitor.

as.com

Now Pumas appeal for a spot kick as Huerta strikes the ball off the arm of a Tigres defender.

This will be a penalty for Pumas.

as.com

Pumas change

Molina off

Lopez on

as.com

Molina is in tears and this is a sad, sad sight.

The defender leaves the pitch on the trolley and Pumas will need to make a change.

as.com

Molina is still on the ground and this does not look great for the Pumas defender and it may be the last time we see the 35-year-old tonight.

as.com

Lainez and Molina collide and medical teams for both sides will take a look at both players who are on the ground.

as.com
5

Big appeal for a spot kick from the home fans as the ball strikes a Pumas defender (Molina) on the arm.

Nothing going for the match official and a correct call.

as.com
3

Guzman is fouled and there is a pause in the frantic start.

as.com
1

Off we go at El Volcan.

Tigres start the action.

as.com

America await with the second leg set for the Azteca next Sunday.

as.com

A reminder of the teams as kick off is just moments away

as.com

A massive Tigres tifo (Garra y Corazon-Desire and Heart) is also displayed by the home fans in a spectacular greeting for the teams and referees.

as.com

The teams make their way onto the pitch and are greeted with a wonderful light show.

as.com

Both teams continue to carry out their warm up drills with ten minutes to go until kick-off at El Volcan.

Remember, Pumas need to win as an aggregate draw would see Tigres advance to the final given their regular season standing. The Nuevo Leon side finished in 3rd place, one ahead of Pumas.

as.com

Tigres enjoying a better run in latter stages of Liga MX Apertura with their last defeat coming on 2 November at the hands of Xolos.

... is that UNAM head coach Antonio Mohamed has never lost a semifinal series in his time in Mexico as manager of Tijuana, América and Monterrey.

as.com

Last Pumas win at El Volcan....

One has to go back to 2014 for the last time Pumas recorded a win at El Volcan, when the university side recorded a 1-2 win in matchday 4 of the 2014 Clausura.

as.com

Pumas fans, look away now

Not a stat that will encourage Pumas fans with Robert Siboldi's men unbeaten at home in the past 15 games.

as.com

Remember, Tigres hold a 0-1 advantage from the first leg played last Thursday in Mexico City and Pumas have to win as an aggregate draw would see the men from Nuevo Leon advance as they finished higher in the regular season standings.
