Tigres secure second signing for Apertura 2025: “I didn’t think twice”

Tigres have officially secured their second reinforcement for the Liga MX’s Apertura 2025 tournament: forward Edgar “Gacelo” López.

The former Toluca striker touched down in Monterrey just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, declaring that he had zero hesitation about joining the powerhouse club - even after winning the Clausura 2025 title with Toluca.

“This is a top-tier club”

“I’m coming off a championship run, but the moment I heard Tigres were interested, I didn’t think twice,” López said. “From the outside, you can tell this is a top-tier club with an incredible fanbase. That’s what drew me here.”

The Mexican forward also praised the strength of Tigres’ roster, saying the high level of competition is exactly what motivates him.

“This squad is exciting,” he said. “I love the challenge. Tigres have some amazing players, and that’s what sparked the move. Now I’m fully focused and ready to give everything from day one.”

How long is López’s Tigres contract?

As previously reported by AS México, López arrives on a one-year loan with an option to buy. He’s scheduled to undergo medical exams on Tuesday morning and will join team training the following day.

More reinforcements to come

López becomes the second official addition to the squad this summer, following the signing of Mexican-American goalkeeper Antonio Carrera.

The club is still awaiting the arrival of Argentine forward Ángel Correa on July 9 and is working to finalize its pursuit of Honduran midfielder Joseph Rosales.
