Update:

With under two weeks to go until the Liga MX transfer window slams shut, Tigres are close to locking in their second signing for the Clausura 2026.

AS México has confirmed that the eight-time Mexican champions have agreed a deal for former Orlando City midfielder César Araújo, who is poised to pen a four‑year contract with the Monterrey‑based club.

The Uruguayan is expected to arrive in La Sultana del Norte in the coming days to undergo his medicals and finalize the move with Los Felinos.

Who is César Araújo?

A product of Montevideo Wanderers, Araújo spent the 2022 to 2025 seasons in MLS with Orlando, where he helped the Lions lift the U.S. Open Cup in his first year. He was available as a free agent after the conclusion of his stint with the Florida side, which made negotiations significantly smoother.

The 24-year-old comes from a soccer family: he is the younger brother of Maximiliano Araújo, the former Puebla and Toluca standout who earned a move to Sporting CP following his strong performances for Los Diablos Rojos.

If everything proceeds as expected, César Araújo will become Tigres’ second reinforcement of the window, joining Mexican center‑back Francisco Reyes.

When does the transfer window close?

Liga MX clubs have until the end of Monday, Feb. 9 to complete their transfer business.
