Argentina’s stormy journey to the World Cup final
Ahead of this weekend’s 2026 World Cup final against Spain, the Argentinians’ flight to New York faced a delay of several hours.
Argentina suffered an unexpected setback on its road to Sunday’s World Cup final against Spain. La Albiceleste was forced to delay its departure from Atlanta to New York by several hours on Thursday afternoon, after a thunderstorm disrupted the team’s flight plans.
After waiting for clearance from aviation authorities, the squad was finally able to travel to the site of this weekend’s title game, arriving at its pre-final base in New Jersey late on Thursday night.
Lionel Scaloni’s men are now set to train on Friday at a practice facility near East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium, the venue for the final.
Final expected to be storm-free
The closing days of the tournament have been affected by challenging weather conditions. In New Jersey, air quality has been severely impacted by wildfires in Canada, prompting authorities to advise residents against participating in outdoor sporting activities.
At least for now, however, there is no threat of storms in Sunday’s forecast, and the final is expected to go ahead without any issues. Temperatures are also projected to remain manageable, with highs not expected to exceed around 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Held at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 19, the World Cup final kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET/12 noon PT. Viewers in the U.S. will be able to watch the game on FOX Network, Telemundo, Telemundo Deportes En Vivo, UNIVERSO, TeleXitos, FOX One and fubo.
