Jean-Clair Todibo has been at the centre of one of the most bizarre moments of the weekend in France’s top flight. The former Barcelona centre-back was sent off just nine seconds into the Nice-Angers match on Sunday. Angers found Sima in space before the forward was pushed by Todibo outside the penalty area after only five seconds. The referee had no hesitation and after nine seconds the young defender received his marching orders.

Joined Nice from Barcelona

Todibo joined Nice on a permanent deal in July 2021. The French club paid Barcelona €8.5 million for his services after he had spent half a season on loan with the Ligue 1 outfit. He previously had another spell on loan at Portuguese giants Benfica, but he eventually returned to Barcelona. The Catalan club had signed him in 2019, paying €1 million to Toulouse. Barcelona have kept 20% of any future sale of the 22-year-old.
