Two Tigres stars are set to extend a Clásico Regio record against Rayados
In this weekend’s Monterrey derby against Rayados, the Tigres team is set to feature a pair of players who share the game’s appearance record.
This Saturday, Monterrey comes to a standstill for the latest edition of the Clásico Regio, as Monterrey’s Rayados face off against Tigres. Both teams are battling at the top of the Liga MX’s Apertura 2025 standings, and fans are expecting a thrilling showdown at Estadio BBVA.
Over the years, the Clásico Regio has featured a host of standout players - both domestic and international - cementing its reputation as one of the premier rivalries in Mexican soccer. For a long time, Jesús “El Cabrito” Arellano held the record for most appearances in the derby with 31 matches. But that mark has now been surpassed.
Who has the most Clásico Regio appearances?
Today, Argentine goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán and French striker André-Pierre Gignac have each played in 32 Clásico Regios. These two have become icons in Monterrey’s soccer scene, helping Tigres capture five Liga MX titles, along with a Copa MX and four Campeón de Campeones trophies.
Both Guzmán and Gignac are expected to feature this Saturday, as they remain key pieces in the tactical setup led by Argentine manager Guido Pizarro.
