“Unlike anything in the movies!” -Ryan Reynolds

Wrexham owner and Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds reacted to his soccer team’s dramatic 3-2 win over Notts County.

Update:

Fifth-tier English teams Wrexham and Notts County played a high-stakes, intense game of back-and-forth as they battled for first place in the National League and an automatic promotion.

Wrexham went into the game in second place and Notts County in first. At the end of the first half, Wrexham fell behind on a John Bostock free kick, but came back to take the lead with goals from Paul Mullin and Jacob Mendy in the second half. County came back again with a goal by Kyle Cameron to equalize the game with just 15 minutes left. But Elliott Lee’s third goal and goalkeeper Ben Foster’s penalty save in stoppage time gave Wrexham the thrilling 3-2 victory. Now, Wrexham can clinch the top spot with a draw when they play Boreham Wood at home on Satuday, April 22.

Reynolds reacts to win

Hollywood actor and co-owner of Wrexham Ryan Reynolds said the game was “unlike anything I’ve ever seen before”. He joked that he was happy he didn’t care about soccer before buying the team with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.

“I don’t think I have a heart anymore,” Reynolds said. “I think I used all the beats I had left during that match.”

“It’s insane to me that in this league, only one team goes up automatically,” said Reynolds. “If it were different, and I think it should be, both of these clubs would be celebrating right now. Because what they’ve done is, not only created drama unlike anything you’d ever see in a damn movie, but just something that I think people will be talking about for ages.”

Reynolds also joked that they’d need to put Foster, who just came out of retirement two weeks ago, on the injured reserve list due to broken ribs because “I’m going to hug him so hard.”
