These are key weeks ahead for the United States national team who return to action this coming Saturday following the 2024 Copa América and the subsequent departure of former head coach Gregg Berhalter. The match against New Zealand will mark the beginning of a new era for the Stars and Stripes as the 2026 World Cup looms large on the horizon.

Incoming coach Mauricio Pochettino’s confirmation is only a matter of time and U-20 manager Mikey Varas will oversee the forthcoming friendly games against New Zealand and Canada as the final details are put to bed on the Poch deal.

The latest news on the Argentine’s incorporation hails from transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, with the Italian claiming that the deal is in the home straight and the move could be finalised this week.

Key days for Pochettino's presentation at the USMNT

The main obstacle that existed between the USMNT and Mauricio Pochettino in bringing the Argentine coach to the Team USA bench was that the coach had to first resolve his legal situation with Chelsea and a final settlement plan with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

US Soccer are even hoping that the Pochettino deal is confirmed prior to Saturday’s match against New Zealand with the hope that the 52-year-old can attend the game at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.
