USMNT 3 vs 2 Senegal live online: score, stats and updates| USA pre-World Cup friendly
The USMNT gave a promising performance against Senegal in their penultimate match before the World Cup. Ricardo Pepi and Christian Pulisic led the way.
It was a festival of goals, and attacking play between the USMNT and the African Cup of Nations finalists. There were winners, and there were losers. Our Williams Gittens has you covered on who came out on top, and who has room for improvement against Germany.
IT'S ALL OVER!!!!!
The 3-2 scoreline doesn't exactly paint the full picture of how well the US played, especially in the attacking third. There was a goal that was taken off the board for the US and no one seems to know exactly why.
Senegal threatening around the area, but couldn't get the space to have a go at goal with the US defense packing tight.
The 3-2 scoreline just adds a little tension to this final few minutes. It also doesn't look as good on paper if that is indeed how this game ends.
FOUR MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME TO COME HERE FROM CHARLOTTE.
Apparently the fourth goal has been taken off the board. I'm a little stunned by that decision, but I have been informed that Balogun's second did not count.
Doiuf with a great ball into Ndiaye who controlled it and slid it to Dieng but he could't stretch to control it before the attack was shut down by the defender.
The US just taking a bit of sting out of their attack. With five minutes left they will want to defend well with the finish line right around the corner.
Balogun with a shot from the top of the area, but the ball took a strange hop and he blew it over the cross bar.
Zendejas with a take away in the midfield and he had an open path to goal but didn't have the pace to get the shot off before Sarr could get back for the block.
Diouf into the middle fro the left side and the shot by Gueye was blocked by Weah who made a sprawling intervention to prevent the shot from hitting the target.
The US are looking like they want to kill this game off with a fifth goal. Balogun will want to finish off his shift with a hat trick and he has had is chances. Surely one or two more chances will come the way things are going.
McKinnie set up Balogun, who had his hat trick on his foot, but a great save from Diaw was needed. McKinnie tried the rebound that hit off the post, but fell to Balogun and he was stiffled by Diaw for a second time in a matter of seconds!
Gueye from the top of the area and he drills a shot that was always rising over the crossbar.
The scoreboard on the broadcast and at the stadium says it's 3-2, but Balogun's two goals are officially on the books, and it is indeed 4-2
We are back in action after a quick hydration break.
Poch has a laptop locked and loaded to show his guys exactly what he wants from them. Not sure if that will be allowed in the World Cup, but might as well take advantage now.
We are at the hydration break in the second half here from Charlotte.
Roldan had a ball to the back post fall at his feet and he took one touch into the middle but blew it well wide of the target.
It might not be the most disciplined style of play, but I have to admit this has been an entertaining second half. Corner kick to come for the US.
Balogun gets in behind the defenders again, and this time it was McKinnie playing the ball in. Balogun couldn´t keep the effort down, but he's flirting with a hat trick after being subbed at halftime.
GOOOOOOALLLLLLLL!!!!!!
This time it's going to count. It was Weah sending a ball into the mix from the right side, and the defender couldn't stretch back and get a touch to it before Balogun tucked it home just seconds after being called for a foul that took a goal off the board.
The US scored after Tillman tucked a loose ball in the box, but the goal has been waved off after Balogun was called for a foul. Balogun looked like he was in position to score, but slipped, allowing the defender to regain position and Balogun stuck a foot in and the ref was decisive in taking that goal off the board.
Diao and Ndiaye into the game for Mane and Jackson, and Mane gets a nice applause from the Charlotte crowd.
Gueye's shot off the lay off from Diouf was slapped wide of target but another warning for the US defenders who have just dropped off a bit since the first XI went off.
Not much being built up from the back at the moment from the US. The midfield hasn't been able to take control of the match since the goal and Senegal are knocking on the door.
Senegal looking the more willing to equalize this match after the 3-2. Other than the goal, the US hasn't done a whole lot with the subs on the pitch after the break.
The subs have certainly changed this game around. It's all a bit chaotic, but awfully entertaining for the neutral fan watching along.
GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!!
Senegal pull one right back after Jackson takes advantage of a poor touch from Robinson. He ran on to a bouncing ball in the area, got there before Brady and tapped it into an empty net.
A couple of mistakes at the back from both teams have led to early goals coming out of the break.
GOOOOALLLLLLLL!!!!
Balogun on his first touch turns and tucks it home after a horrendous mistake in the back from Mbow who just came on after the break for Senegal.
US back on top and in control right out of the halftime break.
Brady, Weah, Scally, Balogun, Robinson, Trusty, McKinnie and Roldan have all come in after the break. Pepi, Reyna, Dest, Adams, Freeman, McKenzie, Pulisic, Ream and Turner are out.
There have been some changes for the US, but let's see if they come out and continue to dominate after the break.
WE ARE BACK CHARLOTTE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION.
Turner is out and Brady. Roldan, Trusty, Arfsten and M. Robinson are in for Pochetinno's team.
We are certain to see some changes from both teams in the second half as both managers look to see some other players come off the bench and contribute.
After the second goal, Senegal started to possess the ball a little more, and bit by bit started to gain confidence in the attack. Diatta set up Mane with a great pass through the area and the former Liverpool man slotted it home past Turner to cut into the lead.

WE ARE HEADED TO THE BREAK FROM CHARLOTTE!!!
The US came out hot with two early goals set up by Pepi and Pulisic but Senegal pulled one back right before the halftime break.
Diatta looking for Jackson on a ball into the box but that was cleared away by McKenzie.
We are into stoppage time, but no signal has been shown to tell us just how much time to expect.
You kind of felt it coming. The US took their foot of the gas after the second goal, and Senegal started to believe in themselves which each attack.
GOOOOOAAALLLLL!!!!
Robinson gave it up, and was caught out of position as Senegal broke on the counter. Diarra drove at defenders and waited to play Mane on the diagonal run until the perfect time. Mane swiped through the ball and tucked it past Turner and inside the far post.
Corner kick from Senegal to the front post and that was dealt with by the US defense who has looked pretty good albeit against a team that hasn't created too much.
Ndiaye to Jackson on the end line from the right side, but his ball to Mane sailed way over the head of the former Liverpool man, and another chance wasted by Senegal.
Great ball to the back post and Turner was beaten but no one was there on the back post to nod it in.
Mane on the left side this time and he ball into traffic took a deflection and needed a kick save from Turner. Another corner to come.
A bit sloppy from the US in the back and Ndiaye took it right at defenders on the right side and tested Turner from a tight angle. Corner kick to come.
Berhalter was barreled over by B. Ndiaye and the ref stops play to have a word with the Senegal midfielder.
Senegal with another push up the park, and it was Mane getting into the area but he had it poked away by McKenzie and maybe a sign of the times for Mane. Not quite the same player we saw at Liverpool a few years ago.
Pulisic with a ball to the back post and it fell to Burkhalter who sent it back to where it came from and a nod right into the path of Robinson teed him up for a shot that was blocked away right in front of goal. Another great chance for the US.
Another nice run up the touchline from Ndiaye. He cut it back into the middle and laid it off for Camara who took a touch and laced one just wide of the target. That's better from Senegal, and a warning sign for the US back line.
It was a training ground piece from Senegal on the free kick, and Jakobs rolled it to the spot for Mane to try and turn on it, but the shot was blocked and it almost turned into a counter attack for the US:
Free kick for Senegal on the right side of the area, and this will be a chance to swing one in.
Ndiaye trying to make something out of nothing on the right side, but he's just a bit alone at the moment. Not much for support in the attacking third.
We are back in play after a couple minute break to hydrate and cool down.
We have our first hydration break from Charlotte. The US have been dominating this game from the very first kick. Pulisic has an assist and a goal 22 minutes in. It has been 155 days since Pulisic last scored for AC Milan. That is a gran total of 155 days, and you could see the relief in his celebration.
Pepi and Pulisic look to have built up quite an understanding over the last few months. It would be great news if they could keep this going into the tournament.
GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!!
It's Pulisic this time banging it into the back of the net!!! Pepi started everything again. This time on the right side, and he played a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Pulisic. Pulisic took a touch to the right of the keeper and slotted it home!
How good does that goal feel for Pulisic who has needed to see the ball go into the back of the net for a long time.
Diatta with a perfect pass through the box to Ndiaye, and the one touch ball to the spot was placed right on the foot of Jackson who couldn't keep the effort down and that chance goes begging for a bit more quality on the final touch.
Pulisic in the area again and he dropped it back to Berhalter whose shot was blocked away at the top of the box.
Mane and Adams get into a bit of a dust up after a coming together in midfield. The ref is just going to gather the two players in the middle of the park and just remind them this is a friendly.
Mane was sent in through the middle of the area, but Turner came off his line and sprawled before Mane could get a touch. Questions of a penalty arose from the Senegalese players but no review is to come.
Good spacing from the US team through the first 10 minutes or so. Tight in the back, but using each and every yard from touchline to touchline.
Nothing comes of the free kick from the middle of the park, but Senegal is just push up a bit more after the early goal from the US.
Ream gifted a ball to Senegal from the back, and a free kick from distance will allow Senegal to push people into the area.
We knew everything was going to revolve around Pulisic but how about Pepi dropping back and helping out in the midfield, setting up Pulisic with a great ball on the left side.
GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!
Beautiful build up from Pepi on the left side. He left it for Pulisic who ran on to the ball in space and put a wonderful ball through for Dest who tucked it home for the game's first goal!!!
It's a three defender back line with Dest on the right side helping out with the defensive duties, and Robinson pushing up on the left side.
Senegal enjoying their first bit of possession after five minutes of the US looking to impose themselves early on.
Pepi put a ball in but it was cut out by Jakobs who took a shot right to the face. Play was stopped momentarily but he is back to his feet after shaking off the early ball to the face.
One two on the left side with Robinson and Pulisic and Pulisic got to the end line before he poked it through a couple of defenders but no one was in the mix looking to pounce on a delicious ball through the small box.
Pulisic's first run at defenders is cut out by Ndiaye, but you can tell that is who they want to be creating everything around. For obvious reasons.
What should we be looking for? Poch wants to see his side come out and play high intensity soccer from the first minute until the last. Intensity is key for the Argentine manager.
WE ARE UNDERWAY!!!
It's the USMNT against Sadio Mane and Senegal from Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
Adam Lee Decker is getting the fans warmed up with a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. It's a packed house, but surprisingly quite a few Senegal shirts according to our on site reporter Will Gittens.
A Panther great in attendance
Luke Kuechly played in Carolina and called this stadium his home for years. Now the former linebacker is sitting pitch side rooting on the red white and blue. He wouldn't make a terrible center back if Poch needs an emergency defender before the World Cup starts.

US soccer responds Poch rumors
Poch didn't do much to calm those rumors, and the federation didn’t quite refute the speculating either. US Soccer CEO JT Batson said, “Even when we first met a couple summers ago, there were lots of other people interested in having Mauricio and [his staff] join,” the chief executive told assembled reporters. “He had standing offers from other places to come, and he wanted to be here. He’s a big believer in what we’re doing at U.S. Soccer, he’s a big believer in soccer in America, and he’s a big believer in this men’s team.” This is a part of the game, and it seems as though the communication from both parties has been good. “Throughout this, Mauricio and team have been incredibly transparent, they’ve been great partners, and we’re, of course, excited about the summer,” he added.

USMNT XI against Senegal
We have our XI from Mauricio Pochettino. Could this be what the XI looks like against Paraguay on June 12th?

Poch leaving before starting?
Is Poch already planning his exit from his post as the national team coach? There are rumors that the Argentine may be negotiating with AC Milan even before the World Cup begins. While the rumors are swirling, Pochettino says he's focused on on the task at hand, and anything else is just a distraction that he is paying no attention to. “It is disrespectful. Because I am here. I am here. I am not going to go away tomorrow. If another club came and said, 'We want you, but you have to start tomorrow.’ I say, ‘Sorry, I committed with the national team.’ Whether it’s the best club in the world. They can give me all the promises. I am not going to change.” said Pochettino.

Poch after last international break
While the results were a bit worrying, there was signs of life from the USMNT, and Pochettino wasn't as worried as some other people after the match. He said in both matches that the US was playing as good if not better than the European giants but weren’t able to keep up that intensity for all 90 minutes. “It’s not a thing to be concerned about the World Cup. It’s more about to analyze the game. I think it was a game, of course 5-2 is difficult to accept — it’s painful — but at the same time we can take so many positive things. The first half was really good. We played better than Belgium. We created chances to finish the 45 minutes in a positive way but we concede in the last action and there was an impact.”
The boys are back
Not sure if those are hockey jerseys that the USMNT players are wearing with the Stanley Cup Finals right around the corner, but they aren't too bad these get ups. The Carolina Hurricanes did just beat the Montreal Canadians to advance to the Finals last night, so awfully appropriate if that's the case.

Pochettino named Chris Richards to the squad hoping that he would recover from his ankle injury that kept him out for the final few games with his club Crystal Palace. Richards will not be available today either, as he continues to rehab the injury. Our Joe Brennan has more.
