Victim’s family accuses former footballer as his partner dies from seventh floor fall
Raquel Candia died after falling in an internal courtyard, and police sources say Cáceres was the only person present.
Raquel Candia, the partner of former football star Fernando Cáceres, died Monday after falling from the seventh floor of their shared residence. The incident occurred at their home, where Cáceres had a notable career playing for Spanish clubs like Real Zaragoza, Valencia, and Celta de Vigo, as well as Argentine teams such as Argentinos Juniors and River Plate.
Candia and Cáceres had been together since 2009. According to Telefe Noticias, she fell from an internal patio. Police sources confirmed that Cáceres was the only person present in the apartment with her at the time of the incident. Candia’s family has accused the ex-footballer of being responsible for her death.
In statements reported by Clarín, one of Candia’s brothers revealed that their relationship with Cáceres was “quite aggressive.” He accused Cáceres of mistreatment, stating that Cáceres kept his sister trapped and wouldn’t let her go out. “He was always pressuring her and wouldn’t allow her to spend Sundays with the family,” he added.
Investigation and autopsy
Currently, the Bonaerense Police are investigating the case to determine what exactly happened. They have not ruled out any possibilities, including feminicide, suicide, or an accidental fall. “We are working at the scene of the incident. There is no evidence of a third person,” police officials stated. An autopsy for Candia is scheduled for Tuesday.
The death took place on Suipacha Street in Buenos Aires. Authorities emphasize that it is too early to draw any definitive conclusions.
Fernando Cáceres had a distinguished football career in Spain. After debuting with Argentinos Juniors, he moved to Zaragoza in 1993, where he won the Copa del Rey in 1994 and the Recopa in 1995. He later played for Valencia during the 1997-98 season and concluded his time in Spanish football with Celta de Vigo, winning the Intertoto Cup in 2000.
In 2009, Cáceres was shot in the head in an attempted robbery while driving his car in a Buenos Aires suburb. He recovered after an eight-week drug-induced coma.
