Victor Muñoz to Liverpool: Reds trigger release clause
The Premier League side will pay the buyout fee in full, with the €40 million payout split between Osasuna and Real Madrid.

Victor Muñoz is a new Liverpool player. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League side has triggered the release clause tying the forward to Osasuna. The €40 million fee will be split between Real Madrid and the Pamplona-based club.
During negotiations, Liverpool felt it necessary to make a concession to Real Madrid, as the Spanish giants held a buy-back option and a right of first refusal that could have blocked the forward’s move to Anfield. Consequently, the Merengues have retained a buy-back clause valid at the end of Muñoz’s first season with Liverpool.
Consequently, Real Madrid will pocket €25 million for the academy graduate who made his first-team debut under Carlo Ancelotti. This figure includes the €5 million Osasuna initially paid for his transfer, plus half of the release clause Liverpool are now paying to the Navarrese side.
The Spanish international’s move to Newcastle had been taken almost for granted, but in the end, Liverpool managed to get where the former club of Barça player Gordon could not: paying the release clause in full. The English club has already informed Osasuna that they will cover the €40 million fee that set the forward’s valuation last summer.
