Vinícius Júnior poster vandalised outside Estadio Santiago Bernabéu before Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano

Vini Jr won’t face Rayo but remains in the spotlight just days after being the target of sickening racist abuse in Valencia.

Only 72 hours after the beginning of the racism storm which saw Real Madrid attacker Vínicius Júnior suffer vile abuse from several fans at the Mestalla in Valencia, the sorry affair continues, this time at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the run-up to Los Blancos’ home LaLiga clash against near neighbours Rayo Vallecano.

Why won’t Vinícius play against Rayo?

The Brazilian star won’t feature in Wednesday’s game, despite seeing the red card he was shown at the weekend rescinded after what can only be described as a refereeing cock-up. Vinícius didn’t train on Tuesday because of a minor knee issue and has been given some time off to clear his head.

Vini the victim of vandalism

Even so, he continues to be in the limelight in the hours before the match, with vandals sadly targeting a poster advertising the Santiago Bernabéu Tour, tearing off the section in which the winger’s face appears.

Compatriot Rodrygo to replace Vinícius

Vinícius’ compatriot Rodrygo Goes is expected to take his place on the left flank, which is likely to see Fede Valverde play a more attacking role on the right. They will line up either side of Karim Benzema against Rayo, whose coach Andoni Iraola will be going in search of his first ever win at the Bernabéu as a manager.
