Weir ahead of Asllani in Real Madrid goal charts: how many has Scot scored?

Signed last summer to fill the void left by Kosovare Asllani, Weir has taken no time at all to become the second-top scorer in the history of Real Madrid’s women’s team.

A self-confessed Real Madrid fan, Caroline Weir has wasted little time in establishing herself as a star in the Spanish capital. Albeit it comes with the caveat that Madrid’s women’s team is only in its third season, the Scot has taken just nine months to write her name into Las Blancas’ history books.

Weir helps Real Madrid forget about Asllani

You can’t say no to Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world,” Weir said when she signed for Madrid in July last year. The 26-year-old was tasked with helping to take the team to the next level and, above all, with filling the boots of Kosovare Asllani, the first major star of the club’s women’s project. Weir hasn’t taken long to surpass the Swede’s achievements and become the side’s leader.

In just 37 games for Madrid, Weir has overtaken Asllani as the team’s second-highest all-time scorer. The former Manchester City forward has 24 goals for the Spanish giants, one more than Asllani managed in her two seasons at Madrid before joining AC Milan last summer. Weir now only has team-mate Esther González ahead of her. The Spaniard has so far netted 39 times for the club.

A hand in nearly 40 Real Madrid goals

In her opening season at Real Madrid, Weir has racked up a total of 38 goal involvements in the Liga F, the Champions League, the Copa de la Reina and the Spanish Super Cup: on top of her 24 strikes, she has also supplied 14 assists. Her dream was to be a success at Madrid, just like her idol Zinedine Zidane. She’s well on the way to becoming a club legend.
