Weston McKennie made his third start in this campaign of the UEFA Champions League in Juventus’ 2-0 defeat against Maccabi Haifa. This was his 23rd appearance in the tournament, passing DaMarcus Beasley and tying Jermaine Jones for second most by a United States men’s national team player.

The American midfielder has made a total of four appearances this year in the Champions League for Juventus and scored in the opening match, coming in as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately, the Old Lady is on the brink of an early exit because with the games left in the group stage they sit in third place with three points, five less than second place Benfica.

Allegri will continue with the project

Despite their shocking loss on Tuesday night and being in eighth place in the Serie A, Juventus president Andrea Agnelli told the media that Massimiliano Allegri will remain in charge of the project. Now the Old Lady will fight with Maccabi Haifa to secure a spot in the Europa League in the battle for third place in Group H.

“This is a difficult night in a difficult period. It is one of the most difficult periods and the moment to take responsibility, which is why I am here. I feel ashamed for what is happening, I am angry, but I also know that football is played with 11 men, you lose and win with 11,” said Agnelli on Tuesday night.

“In a situation like this, it’s not about one person. It’s a matter to be dealt with by a whole group. We feel ashamed, we apologize to our fans, because we know they must feel ashamed to walk around at the moment. Allegri is the coach of Juventus and he will remain as the coach of Juventus,” he added.
