What did Alf-Inge Haaland say about Erling Haaland’s future?
Erling Haaland will be back in action for Manchester City in the Premier League 10 days after the Qatar 2022 World Cup finishes.
Rumours continue to swirl surrounding Erling Haaland’s future. The Norwegian signed for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last summer, which seemed set to end transfer speculation for at least the next five years, the duration of his contract at the Etihad. However, that hasn’t been the case, with the revelation that he has a release clause in his contract which would allow him to leave City in 2024 sparking talk that he will spend just two seasons playing in the Premier League. Haaland has so far refused to comment and is focused on winning trophies with the Citizens, which, considering he has only been there a matter of months, he has yet to do.
Alf-Inge Haaland: Erling Haaland wants to show he can win in any of the top leagues
The player’s father, former Leeds United and Manchester City man Alf-Inge Haaland, has reiterated to DAZN that there is a good chance his son could be in the move in a couple of years. “I have the impression that he wants to show that he can win in any of the top leagues. He spent two-and-a-half years in Germany and could stay in the Premier League for three years, then go to Italy, Spain or France.”
The Norwegian international has his sights fully set on achieving as much as he possibly can in the game at several clubs, but Alf-Inge insists that despite his future goals, he is happy at City and focused on making history in Manchester: “He hasn’t decided anything yet but there’s a possibility that he also wants to win in other leagues in other countries. But you never know, he could end up staying at City for 15 years because he’s happy there and it’s a great club.”
This will certainly not be the last chapter in the Erling Haaland transfer tale, with the player seemingly attracted by the bright lights of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have been keeping close tabs on one of the world’s very best players.
When does the Premier League return after the World Cup?
The Premier League starts back up again on Monday, 26 December. However, Haaland and Manchester City won’t be in action until 48 hours later, with their matchday 17 fixture away to Leeds taking place on Wednesday, 28 December.
