What is the Premier League record for consecutive home wins?

Aston Villa, who face Arsenal in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, have been in sensational form under Unai Emery at Villa Park.

It’s difficult to underestimate the impact Unai Emery has had on Aston Villa. The Birmingham-based side were 17th in the Premier League table when the Spaniard took over from Steven Gerrard in October last year but finished 2022-23 in seventh, qualifying for the Europa Conference League. This season, they have kicked on even further and go into Saturday’s home game against Arsenal ahead of Manchester City in the standings and just four points off the league leaders.

Aston Villa: relegation battlers to title contenders?

After returning to the English top flight in 2019 after a three-year absence, The Villains finished in the bottom half of the standings for three years running and looked set for a relegation battle last term until Gerrard moved on and Emery came in. After some mixed results at the start of his tenure, Villa transformed into one of the Premier League’s most vibrant attacking teams and suffered only two defeats in their last 15 league fixtures, at one stage even being considered outsiders for a Champions League spot.

Their superb start to this season - 10 wins, two draws and three defeats in 15 matches - means they are already part of that conversation, although their scintillating home form has left many wondering whether they could even aspire to more.

How many home games have Villa won in a row?

Emery’s men leapfrogged 2022-23 treble winners City in the standings after beating them at Villa Park in midweek, outshooting their opponents by 22 shots to two, simultaneously the highest and lowest tallies a Pep Guardiola team has ever recorded at either end of the field.

The victory was Villa’s 14th in a row at home in the Premier League, a run that have seen them score 38 goals and concede just seven, keeping seven clean sheets along the way. A 15th against The Gunners at the weekend will move them to within just a point of the league leaders, who will not have manager Mikel Arteta in the dugout.

Which team holds the record for consecutive Premier League home wins?

Hugely impressive numbers, you’ll certainly agree, although Villa are still some way away from the overall record of consecutive home victories in the Premier League. Liverpool lead the way with a whopping 24 straight wins at Anfield between February 2019 and July 2020, with their streak ending shortly after they had already been crowned champions in 2019-20, a season which was hugely affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
