EURO 2024
What Scotland need to qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany
Scotland are close to clinching qualification for Euro 2024 in Germany next summer.
Scotland are top of Group A heading into today’s match against Spain in Seville. Steve Clarke’s men are close to clinching qualification for Euro 2024 in Germany next summer and have collected 15 points from their opening five games in this qualifying campaign with a goal difference of +11.
At the time of writing, the Tartan Army are six points ahead of La Roja, who have a game in hand having played four games to date, winning three. Scotland are eight clear of Norway and 11 ahead of Georgia.
What do Scotland need to qualify for Euro 2024?
If Scotland draw or win against Spain in Andalusia on Thursday, they will qualify for Euro 2024. They can also qualify depending on the score in the match between Cyprus and Norway.
If Erling Haaland and Norway lose or draw against Cyprus, then Scotland will also qualify regardless of how their fixture with Spain goes.
Clarke’s thoughts
Clarke says he will only celebrate when his side get over the line.
He said: “Every result that we’ve had in the group has been important. It’s been a process towards qualification, that’s what we’ve spoken about inside the dressing room. That’s all we’ve focussed on – trying to make the right steps at the right time. It’s another step. We still need a little bit more.
“At the moment the table looks pretty nice. It was a big win for Spain, we got there next. We have to be ready for a really tough game.
“I can’t think too far ahead because you’re asking me to predict results and what might happen in the future, I don’t know. At this moment in time, I know that five wins is a pretty healthy position. I’ll celebrate when we’re there.”
