On matchday six of the Clausura 2026 today, Chivas Guadalajara hosts Club América in Liga MX’s highest-profile matchup.

Chivas Guadalajara is riding a wave of momentum - and Los Rojiblancos’ mission this weekend is to prove it’s no accident. Gabriel Milito’s men will look to deliver a statement win when they face their fiercest rival, Club América, in a matchday-six showdown in the Clausura 2026. Chivas has been perfect so far this tournament, and today’s test could be campaign-defining.
Chivas’s Estadio Akron will be the setting for the latest edition of Mexico’s Clásico Nacional. The country’s two most iconic soccer clubs will add another chapter to their storied rivalry from 9:07 p.m. local time, when referee César Arturo Ramos blows the opening whistle. With Ramos as the man in the middle, incidentally, Chivas has never managed to defeat Las Águilas.

Chivas vs América: Clásico Nacional preview
In the Clausura 2026, the biggest-name matchup of the Liga MX’s regular season arrives unusually early. Just six games into the campaign, the two clubs with the largest fan bases in Mexico meet again. And unlike in several recent editions, it’s Guadalajara who come into the clash in far better form.
Chivas has opened up the Clausura with five straight wins. Some analysts have played down that perfect start, arguing that the level of opposition has not been particularly demanding. That’s what makes Saturday’s clash such a crucial measuring stick: a victory for El Rebaño Sagrado would be a powerful statement.

Guadalajara sits atop the table with 15 points from a possible 15, holding a five‑point cushion over its closest challengers (Tigres, Cruz Azul and Atlas). Even if Chivas were to lose the Clásico Nacional, the 12-time Mexican champions would remain the Clausura 2026’s leader. Guadalajara also boasts the tournament’s best attack so far, with 10 goals scored.
Meanwhile, Andre Jardine’s América has had a more uneven start. Until last weekend, indeed, Las Águilas sat outside Liga MX’s playoff zone. A 1-0 win over Monterrey then allowed the Coapa side to climb to eighth place on eight points. It’s certainly not the kind of position expected of a club of their stature, but a win over Chivas could change the 16-time Liga MX winners’ trajectory quickly.
